a cool first from a world class cuemaker

Bill... while I agree with you regarding the criticism of the Tasc cue, bringing another cuemaker into it and criticizing people for liking his cues is more than a little hypocritical.

I believe people should be able to say what they want about a cue posted the public forum. Some will like it, and some will not. Some will like other cuemakers better than the cuemaker of the cue that is posted.. that is just the way it is.

I questioned Ken on what he saw wrong with the inlay work in this particular Tasc... but I would never tell him he is not entitled to his opinion.

Just because all the response to a cue is not glowing praise does not mean you should not post cues. I am sure the number of people who appreciate your Tasc far outweigh the people with criticize it.

I find threads much more interesting when people post their honest opinions verses just a "badwagonning" thread.

Being honest is one thing but when it comes to someone's cue, like kids and dogs, if you can't find the words to praise, then it probably is best to sit on your hands and not post such meaningless comments as "not my cup of tea" or "never been a fan of that". The OP really isn't interested in that nor am I. However, you see it all the time. I haven't been around here for that long, but long enough to see a good number of cues posted by many proud owners. It would have been wrong to have given in to temptation and questioned some of the lavish comments being written under the guise of just being honest and wanting to know what all the fanfare was about over a cue that had 4 points with inlays of dots and diamonds or to pose the question of why someone would place themselves on an 8-10 year list and still have nothing more to show for it than a cue design we've all been looking at for the past 40 years. I honestly don't get that but it's not for me to question or comment on. It's not like the OP had asked for an honest assessment of his new purchase. We all have our favorites and, god knows, are firmly entrenched in our opinions of what constitutes collectible or playable. But that doesn't mean we have the right to remind everyone of that every chance we get. Just saying.

That's a good idea. I'm with you. Everyone just keep quiet with the negative!! When someone puts something out for the public to see, the general public should be limited to only glowing praise! Honesty in any form is welcome (as long as 'honesty' means 'nothing but nice comments').

I mean, those movie writers/directors/producers/actors all work really hard on their projects, right? They're proud of their work too. So fire all those critics and reviewers. They've got some nerve! Same goes for tv shows, music, etc., etc.. Come to think of it, maybe we can have signs on the doors to all museums saying "While this is a gallery, we ask that you only say nice things about the works within. We're too sensitive to hear anything but praise". Makes TOTAL sense. I'm with you. ;)

- B <------------- never had a bad word to say about this cue but if I had... jeez! I'd have changed my stance to "Jesus Tap-Dancing Christ! This is the greatest cue ever made!!!!"

here is another first
this is one of my favorite cuemakers what do you think and who?

here is why he's nit-pickin look at the second pic the white tear drop is not center in the black. the tear drops r not even and that could be by design. Tell his to kiss it cause that is a nice looking cue

Mia, you wouldn't have to say anything. Just STFU when you can't find the right words.

First, let me say this...

With regards to the Tascarella in question... I love it. I've always been a fan of Tascarellas and this one is NO exception. So make no mistake Bill. I'm not saying anything bad about this cue because I can't. I like it. I like it a lot.

Now, let me ask you Walker... who exactly are you (or Bill or anyone else for that matter) to say what "the rights words" are and what is just plain unacceptable? If your thought is that any opinion that conflicts with what the poster in question is looking to hear is unacceptable and unwelcome, then I'll just go ahead and follow that theory AND apply it here.

Walker and all others... Don't respond to this post unless it is to say: "You're right mia. Damn you're smart. And hell. You're pretty handsome too! I'm really kinda jealous of you because of your unsurpassed level of awesomeness."

Those right there are the only words I'm looking to hear and since we all get to dictate what are 'the right words' and the kind of feedback we want, no one is allowed to respond to me unless that is all they wish to say.

Thanks.
- B <--------- see how foolish this whole 'no honest opinions allowed' thing is?

Damn,
you are so right but smart and handsome too.No question in that!
I love Tascarellas a lot and if I have to choose between Tasc and you,I would put myself on hard road.Anyway,I hope I would make the right decision.

The only thing foolish is your reply.

You have gone from being a Hollywood critic to now being handsome and smart, all in two posts.

Never said I was a Hollywood critic. And I was only jokingly saying that I wished to be referred to as handsome and smart... because using YOUR logic, one should ONLY respond to ANY post made in a public forum with the type of feedback the OP wants to hear.

I get what you're saying... "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". But what you fail to see is the idiocy behind your approach.

Put simply, you're saying that when someone asks you or anyone else "wat do you think?" you shouldn't REALLY post what you think. You should respond with what you think the OP wants to hear. If people can't handle honesty, then they shouldn't be putting themselves, their cues, their ANYTHING on display. Taking pride in something you've done or something you've owned, etc. is GREAT. But just having pride in it doesn't make it amazing or wonderful or perfect to anyone and everyone else. If you can't handle that, no amount of blind praise/bullsh!t is going to help at all.

I think the mini propellers are pretty cool, a charming innovation! A good style choice is one where we say "damn, I wish I thought of that for MY cue!" And, DAMN, I wish I thought of that for my cue!

I also really like those veneered diamonds in that ebony buttsleeve. That was pretty slick. I didn't like the floating ebony points with inlays, those just absolutely ruined that cue for me. It looked like a Dale Perry.

Too bad everyone gets hurt over some discourse. I expect to get shredded when I post up my cue later this month, but that's fine, I want to know what to do differently in selection next time. IF I didn't want to hear it, I wouldn't post something up on the internet.

I was merely having some fun with your intended humor.

Look, I never meant to suggest censorship and do understand the need of some to have a means of getting both positive and negative feedback. I take your point.

My comments were more directed to those who post up pictures of their pride and joy where it is clear that they are looking for only favorable comments. Perhaps I picked the wrong example in this case since Bill did, in fact, ask what we all thought. I just think of when I could have commented about someone's cue by saying that IMO you have a butt ugly cue and the flaming veneers are nauseating, not to mention that your reference to it as collectable is a joke (of course not in those exact words). I can only imagine how that would be received. That is what I am referring to. You can agree or disagree.

I don't have a clue what Bill was expecting but it clearly wasn't what he got with some. I know if it were me and it bothered me so much that I felt offended, then I would just stop posting pictures, period! However, we would all lose since he has access to many of the best the world has to offer. In that case, I would hate to screw that opportunity up with some opinion best kept unsaid. That's just me.

As I've conceded, I do see your argument but feel it has its' place.

That is an excellent post and I do see your point as well.

I really do not believe any of the posts in this thread will hurt Bill's chances of selling the cue quickly. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if the cue was already sold.

and they acted like it has nothing on there 4 point dot and diamond larry cue or bob madof investment cue

Even Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh, were criticized. Not everyone is going to like their work. Why would a dealer get upset if someone does not like Picasso's work?

But I always think the same thing when I see 100s of posts and a 10 year wait on a SW cue. And please don't say it is the hit of the cue. As there is millions of great hitting cues. Everyone has the "best" hitting cue out there.

And yes, I have had a few of them to base some judgment on it. But to each his own....

ditto

Didn't mean to come off as negative and I understand on this site it is a faux pas to say something that isn't a compliment.

I really like Tasc, cues and I have owned several.

I really don't like the black outline he does on his inlays. Bushwacker had a cue for sale that he did the same thing on the butt. The black outline would even be better if it was very thin, but to me it looks it just doesn't belong. For some reason Tasc seems to want to have black around any inlay.

NOW, look at the cue that SKINS posted. That inlay is going (or already does) look awesome.....But a big reason is that the inlays are in ebony.

I guess if I thought Tasc was a hack, it wouldn't bother me so much. But I think he is certainly top 10 cuemaker.

But you guys asked me my opinion and when I honestly gave it, I get called negative.

Ken

I too am not a fan of many of Pete's inlays, and for this very same reason. That thick ebony border kills me.

Doesn't mean his cues are not tops, just different strokes for different folks.

wow this got very serious for a thread about a way a cue is built, go easy guys, stress free-live long. no heart attacks allowed......
