I dont know how many of you out there have played this fanstastic gambling game but if you havent here you go!!!

Every player is dealt 5 cards and gets to draw up to 3 new ones once to better ones hand.

Then you rack 15 balls with the 1 at the front and the rest at random except for the 14 and 15 balls which will be in the middle under where the 8 ball woudl be for a game of 8 ball.

Since there are onl;y 13 different playing cards the 14 and 15 balls are used as FREE balls to play position with.

You have to make your hand to win the game so if you have a pair of 2's and 3 kings you need to make the two ball and 12 ball to make your hand. Whatever the remaining players have left in their hand (1-5 cards) is the amount they pay you. So if your playing $5 a card and get caught with 4 cards you owe the winner $20.. Now 3 -5 handed play this is pretty good money.

CAUTION: This has happened to me on numerous occassions so be careful...

While the player is pocketing their hand they may make balls (cards) that you also have. So you can actually get out by another player making your last card (balls) leaving them stuck with whatever cards are left in their hands.

Oh i forgot to mention as soon as you make a card you have to flip the card up on the rail (or adjacent table) to show you have that card. Other players with similar cards must also flip up their cards to show that it was in their hand...

Whatca guys think???

I don't quite get it. What is you have an Ace high hand...with 4 other cards...no pairs. You would have to make the balls that corresponded to each card? So it would be better to have 4 of a kind than a straight, right? Because with a 4 of a kind (let's say four 3's)....you would only have to make the 3 ball and one other to win?

And you can win if someone else makes your last ball? What if 2 players need a 10 to win...and someone makes the 10-ball. Who wins?

It sounds like it could be fun....I just need more clarification.

Thanks!

Melissa

Played this game a ton of times (though we play for loonies, not fives) and it is great fun. One rule we use is that if I shoot a ball in that you also have in your hand you cannot put your card down on the table until it is your turn. This makes it so a player cannot be beaten on his own turn because he really has no way of knowing what cards the other players have.

It can also be a great surprise if you are last to shoot and when it finally becomes your turn you can step up and put all your cards down.

Three Questions

Do you shoot the balls in whatever order you wish?

Is it an open break?

Unless playing in rotation, what's the significance of racking the one in front?

The break is open and whatever is sunk stays down but then the breaker must make at least one of his cards on every shot or lose his or her turn.

Balls that are accidently made (like on combos and caroms) also stay down and count for all players.

If you scratch the cue all ythe balls made will come up and spot and the incoming player has to shoot from the kitchen.

You can play any ball at anytime (8 ball into the 3 ball etc...) and Yes Melissa you want to have pairs for a quick out instead of a horrible Ace high hand where all of yoru balls are tyed up :(

You can see that you can make your own rules that all the players in the game agree on. Thats the best part...

And like i said playing a certain $$$ amount on cards can really add up. I watched one game where they were playing $50 a card

To answer your question on two players with the same last card... If you and the other player with the same last card gets out then you would both spilt the pot or what the other losing players would owe one winner..

so your goal is to get pairs, three of a kinds and four of a kinds...straight and flush are useless...

Pretty much..

Its not about having a winning poker hand but to get rid of your cards first. Sinking or pocketing the balls that are your cards
