I need some input from the lathe operators and machinist(cuemakers) about this dc motor http://www.pennstateind.com/store/TCLVSKIT.html. It would be very easily mounted to the bracket of my old 54 in. atlas metal lathe and has the right diameter shaft, I just need opinions as to how well DC power will turn this lathe through the speed change pulleys. If the 1/2 horsepower rating is true will DC replace the factory AC 1/2 horsepower because the variable speed would be great for slower speeds. Please feel free to tell me the truth in your opinion as I'm tired of hand starting every time I use the lathe, Harbior freight has a AC motor for around $60 but no variable speed. I have a Brianna 7foot taig based lathe and another Deluxe that I could use the Pennstate DC on at a later time but need it on the Atlas now.--Leonard
