I have a much older friend (about 50 or so years old) who plays lights out pool. He works as a custodian at my school (New Jersey Medical School), and I always find him sneaking in and out of our student center to play some pool very very late at night. He cannot afford to play at a pool hall but he loves the game. He lives by himself and spends almost all his free time playing pool there. So I signed him up for the APA pool league and sent in the membership fee for him, and in a two short months time has become an SL6. He has taught me quite a thing or two and plays a very well. This entire year or so, he and I have been sharing my stick, but very recently he has expressed interest in buying a cue stick of his own, so I showed him this website, but he also does not have any sort of computer access nor how to use them. So I set about the task of trying to find him a very affordable cue for him to play with, but everything I find is too pricey for him. He didn't realize it would cost him at least $100 or more to buy a nice, durable stick. He has expressed such gratitude to play with me, in my league, and with my cue, but he also feels like he is intruding. I absolutely love this man and his company, so I made him a deal that I would get him a cue if he kept playing with me, and he reluctantly agreed. I would absolutely love to give my friend, James, a cuestick that he would be able to use for a very long time. Unfortunately, I was recently mugged on my front door and don't have much money at my expense (I live in Newark, NJ). I start working a part time job on Monday, so I will be able to eventually find something for James, but it would mean quite a lot to me if I could live up to my end of the bargain with something nice. May God bless you.
get me james adress and name he will get a shamrock!

This is a great exercise in generosity...for so many reasons.

John E is now 80 years old and his daily fitness routine is to practice cut shots in Rhode Island Billiards. He comes in alone and plays by himself each day for about 2 hours.

More than 20 years ago, John was my straight pool partner/teacher and also taught me patterns in 9-ball. He is generous to a fault with the only thing he has to give...his knowledge of the game. He was...and is...unable to own a nice cue or even spend much while in the pool room. For his time, I would buy him coffee and pay the green fees. John is my friend and over the last 22 years, has been the one constant in the pool room where I learned to play. He still teaches others, though it seems there are fewer young people every year.

Why a cue for him...he has spent his days giving knowledge and inspiring more people to play and to love the game. Now, perhaps, it is time for others and the game to inspire him. I would like to remind him that what he has given has changed people and will continue to inspire them to give as well.
I need a adress and name, for a mcdermott

The brother of my sis-in law back home in the philippines has been playing pool and he loves to play pool. He called me one day that he wanted a cue to use he said that everytime he plays pool or tournament he used a house cue. His dream is to own a 2 piece cue. If i just have an extra cue and i don't have someone that i support for their schools i could have bought him a 2 piece cue to continue his dream to be a world champion. Bill even though you don't pick my story I think you are an :angel2: ....We thank you that there's someone in this world like you that think of others. God bless you my friend.
jun Ill send you a shamrock and you get it to them! let them know God provided it, not me

It seems that in the "pool world" much attention is given to the few unsavory characters that the action attracts. this has tugged my heart strings, God Bless You for iniating the kindness, God Bless those who are replying, God Bless those in need, God Bless us all.
thank you! my friend

First of all, let me say that this is a very generous gesture on your part Bill. God bless you for it.

Secondly, I don't have a story that will probably tug at anyone's heart. But I do know a single mom raising two daughters on her own with zero help from her ex. She was instrumental in helping me get my team to Vegas a couple of years ago. She loves to play pool but can't afford a cue. I would nominate her for consideration. If I had the extra cash I'd buy her one myself. Anyway, again Bill an awesome thing you're doing. Take care...
ill send you the cue make shur she gets it ! she gets the nicest one because you started off telling me she is a giver to others. and there is a special place in my heart for single parents!!!

WOW!!! ...thank you so much Bill i am sure he will be happy and i will make sure that i will let him know that god provided him that cue and god send someone and that will be you....PM you the address...you are really an angel Bill

Bill sent me a cue out of the blue one time, a amazing McDermott-it had a forearm from the old "C-series" real points, they are cocobolo. It is a great cue to say the least.

I met Bill here while I was in Germany and we became friends, business asside he is my friend. He is trustworthy, heck he had over 6 figures worth of my cues( just 2 big ones) and I didnt have a reciept or anything but his word-thats how much I trust him.

ok now that i'm done brown nosing Bill, I will say this post is the truth. I dont need to score points with Bill.

Free Cue

I know somebody that may need a free cue.

He has an awsome collection of cues on line for sale that we all look over with drool dripping from our mouth. He even helps finance cues for those without all the money up front.

He does missionary work and is giving free cues away in a free cue raffle on the AZ Billiards forum. He gives us that "Bus Driver Move That Bus!" feeling to see someone giving for others in need.

Bill - give yourself a cue - you make this forum worthwhile for the rest of us bums. You have earned it.

TAP - TAP - TAP.

got cues......

So. I'm definitely a newbie in fact this will be my very first post.
But, looking at your thread made me think, maybe you should see if you can establish a non profit sort of deal for those in need of cues. I'm sure a lot of us have a couple of starter cues we have lying around. ie: players, cuetecs, malis, the old solid color mcdermott. I know I definitely have more than a few.
I'm just suggesting since you've got the ball rolling maybe having a non profit org set up would get the cues those of us don't use, into the hands of those who will use it.

Last but not least what's the average/ cheapest cost of shipping a cue?

An absolute Jackass of a guy has a great kid...here is the kind of guy he is...I basically gave the game away so he could play his son in the semis, I was telling someone that he got lucky and he decided to talk smack to me and I just let it slide, knowing his 12 year old son was right there and wished him luck the rest of the way. The next round he beat his own son 6-1 and didnt let his son play in the finals. His son has a cue but a bunk production one and his father just bought a new one for himself. Its one of those random acts of kindness, that I hope his kid turns out to be better than his dad. He is 12 and beat 2 solid B players with a house cue (for some reason he didnt have his cue that night) to get to the semis to play his selfish dad.
This is the age I started at, so what's the kid shooting with now and where ya located? All I really have to give are lol "bunk production" cues. But, if I have something that turns out to be better than what he has then I'm sure something can be done.
Let me know!

Aloha,
Ky

Sounds like a plan but you just told him you were sending him a Shamrock:eek:

Thank you very much Bill.

Unfortunately, I do not know where my friend James lives. But I can try to somehow get an address out of him, if he is willing to let me. I would really like to surprise him with this though so I dont want to have to tell him that I need your address for such and such reason, thank you very much. I really appreciate it. Yet again, may God bless you.

another note of thanks...

i don't usually post much, however, just needed to say this:

a saying goes:

"the child is the father of the man"

you are giving your 5 year old a wonderful 'child-hood' example to follow into 'man-hood...'

by expressing your kindness and caring for others here on this thread here in America; as well as to others in another thread/s in Central America.

i have met so many wonderful people here on Az, and just wanted to say, you are amongst them. thank you for the honor to know you.

it is beautiful to see such expressed gratitude for what some have in life, and i am always blown away by the kindnesses some share with others.

thank you bill,
miles
