A good game for home gathering?

I found some rules for Kelly and couldn't make sense of it at all! And I vaguely remember this as a game played at my local pool hall when I was young decades ago. But I don't find a smidgeon of recollection from those rules I found. Plus, the rules just didn't make any sense, it didn't seem to be written well. If anyone knows a Kelly link, advise.

This may help you to understand how Kelly pool is played.... https://sites.google.com/site/poolandbilliard/pool-dogma

In #1) Why are there 16 peas in the shake bottle?, you can read how the game is played in my condensed version.

If you don't have a shake bottle and peas you can write numbers on 1 side of 16 pennies with a permanent marker.

15 Ball rotation

Who ever gets the 5 ball is partners with who ever gets the ten ball..5&10 different partners at random

Don’t forget the great game of 6-Ball!

And if you need to handicap easily for various players in a friendly ring game, try 7-Ball

Kelly Pool ... aka - Pea Pool - Bottle Pool ... Several can play and you don’t have to be great player to win.

If they are all c and d folks and want to play individually short rack 8 ball would turn over games pretty fast and be simple. 4 Stripes,4 solids, 8 ball in the middle, rack the balls in a diamond pattern just like 9 ball. Use the same basic rules most of them are familiar with.

Have each one bring a roll of quarters, or provide a roll for each, then play some three ball.
^^^ What he said, especially if it's 5 or more players. And the quarters or .50 will keep their interest, unless everyone's wealthy, and in that case you would use U.S Currency bills of appropriate denomination!

If they are real friends, I would never play for real money. Since you are playing at different skill levels someone will feel robbed in the long run. It may be fun for a short while for everybody. Sooner or later someone on the looser side might want to raise the stakes and loose even more. Been there, done that.

Real money and gambling with real friends do not go well together, IMHO.

That depends on what game you're playing and how you team up.
Playing as partners some games are more interesting with stakes.

Here's a multiplayer pay ball game that can be played as 2 teams.... https://sites.google.com/site/poolandbilliard/Home/red-ball---3-7-11-15

Every Thursday after league ends myself and two other buddies play cut throat until we get kicked out. I actually look forward to that more than playing league. We play a little different than mentioned before. We all flip to see who breaks first.
If the breaker makes a ball they keep shooting til they miss and then they declare which group they are and so on. We play a buck a man per game and sharking is encouraged

Koop - got Nooned'd last night

I used to like playing Pea Pool, before I got better and could run more balls. The last game I played, I ran out from the 1 ball which caused the other three guys to quit.

16 peas, 16 is the cueball.

Draw for order, then divide up the peas evenly. (four - 4 each, Five - 3 each, Three - 5 each plus a dead ball)

Shoot in order.

If you make your ball, every one gives you a dime.
If someone makes your ball, you give them a nickel
If you have the 16 and scratch, you owe everyone a dime.
If you have the 16 and someone else makes it, they owe you a dime.

Could use poker chips instead of coins.

Golf is another option.
