A good sneaky pete wood? Good hitting quality.

If you wanted to have a sneaky made, (doesn't have to be real sneaky) what wood would you chose? I've never had a sneaky, but lately I've liked the idea of having something a bit more plain. What types of wood make up a nice hit / balance. Seems to me lots of people like purpleheart, but is that for the hit or for it's cool color? Aesthetics aside, is there any really nice wood for a sneaky?
 
If it was me ...

I would have it with Mexican Bacote with Purpleheart points and brown lizard wrap with gold/brass rings.
 
I like rosewood and ebony models myself. Purple heart and bacote probably hit better, just don't like how either looks.

I like purpleheart or bocote petes with wood-to-wood flat face-joint, and preferably made from a butt that is equal to or better than a USA Valley Supreme in quality.

Bocote or purple handle points with very good grain orientation in the maple front.
 
Question: What is it about Dufferin Hi Run and Valley USA butts that make them into mega hitters? The points aren't even, and I'm assuming the wood is only production line quality...

I kinda don't understand how when one of these is converted, it becomes a $700 sought after cue..:p

find out who in your area sells valley cues. ive seen em at the local brunswick place and olhausen stores. cocobolo two piece sneaky petes for about eighty bucks

the high dollar stuff is an old brunswick titelist conversion
 
best hitting wood for SP's

Have talked with several knowlegeable players & cuemakers in the past. Most seem to lean towards bacote and many also like the hit qualities of cocobolo.

Love my bacote into a hard maple forearm T Scruggs Sneaky -- it's a KILLER ! ;) I'm a sucker for the beauty of the ruddy grained Mexican cocobolo myself.

I'm using a yellow canary wood full splice Sneaky Pete made by Jim Buss...hits great.
 
Cocobola, RoseWood, Purpleheart,Bacote, They all hit good. If you are making it yourself, ask the local pool halls if they have any broken house cues laying around. Cut the butt part out and make your own shaft. Points can be evened up if their not off to much, by offsetting your center. Also Schmelke has nice blanks for sale in all the good woods, and you can even get Birdseye forearms.
