I just returned from the Iowa statewide VNEA tournament. I played in the 8-Ball Singles Open for the first time in about 4 or 5 years. Guess what? No, I didn't win, but I got third! Yea me! Not bad for a blind ol' man out of over 300 entrants.

It was a race to two (yikes!, can you say "safety?"), double elimination. I won my first 5 matches, then lost, then won about 5 more then lost the second place match by a hair. :(

Anyway, I wanted to thank all of you here who have contributed, if even unknowingly, to my success. If I mention names, I'll leave out some, so I won't. But I definitely had much help from this board in the form of information, but moreso, inspiration.

Thank you very much, I couldn't have done it without you, my friends...

Congrats Jeff! It does feel good to do so well after being away for awhile. I played in a scotch doubles tourney 3 wks ago... 1st tourney I've played in since 96 or 97 and we placed 2nd. Of course we didn't have near as many players as the tourney you were in but it was still quite a feat for me. 300 entries and you placed 3rd... great job!

Great job Jeff!

Are you going to the "other" Iowa statewide tourney next week in Waterloo?
A whole herd of us will be coming up from the Quad Cities...should be a fun time!!!!!

I'll be expecting my cheque in the mail, i don't give out free information. Anything that you feel i helped you with I charge $20 per Paragraph of info that helped you. :D

Jeff,
Good work. It's not bragging if it's true. Remember the words of Will Sonnett, "No brag, just fact." I, like many other posters, LOVE to hear about the accomplishments of the other members; that's why I'm here. I spent WAY too many years hanging around with people that couldn't play - I like to hear the thoughts of people that can play (or at least have somewhere near my level of enthusiasm for the game). Keep us posted.

Well done, congrats!
I have learned many things here as well, and hope I have helped someone out in turn.
Since were braggin', I recently took third in a VERY difficult (for my area and speed) 9 ball field. Yay me! I owe it to practice and a few very productive drills that I learned of here.

Peaceout

Well played, Jeff.

For the record, I'm with Williebetmore on this point -- I love to hear about the achievements of those who post. Nobody should view it as boastful, and I hope others will feel comfortable enough to share their accomplishments with us.

Jeff, on the forum, we take an interest in each other's pool games, and when we read a post like yours, it puts a big smile on many of our faces, including mine!

Congratulations Jeff! And third place in the state deserves at least a little braggin' doesn't it?

No, I'm not. I qualified for state on a BCA team, but my team members can't seem to pull it together to get to state. And....and my wife has about had it with my pool playing lately. Gotta fix the roof, the deck, etc.

Play well,

Jeff Livingston

Her outlook, her attitude ;) ..... I'll add a quote to Willee's: "Something in human nature causes us to start slacking off at our moment of greatest accomplishment. As you become successful, you will need a great deal of self-discipline not to lose your sense of balance, humility, and commitment.
H. Ross Perot

That having been said...screw the roof, the deck, and all the rest of it.
"YO...need a rack on table #9 for my man Jeff"........

Congrats Jeff.....
