How do I id a "Cognoscenti" cue. A quy comes in the pool room, says he is selling said cue. Cue has no markings as far as I can see. Cue is all ebony, top to bottom. Rings are silver squares, about 24 each ring. Pin is black, I believe g-10. Any hlp would be appeciated. do not have a camera phone, so there are no pictures. He will be back tonight.

Thanks in advance.

From what you describe...its the real deal. Sounds to be a newer one with the black pin...older ones were greenish g10. One way to double check...pull out the tape measure. The Cog will be 1/2" shorter than standard. Joe builds them 57.5".

Plain Ebony Cog...

Did the cue look anything like this: Plain Ebony Cog

The rings should be sterling silver, and have 30 (I believe) stitches in them.

I have had a few cogs in the past, and if there is a set of joint protectors, I think I remember the one for the butt having a "C" on it.

Also, if it has the black pin, it's a newer, second generation Cog. By that I mean the ones he just started making recently. If that is the case, then the ferrules should be slightly shorter than normal as well.
