a little question about Schon cues

Ok, I was browsing the schon cues website and I saw a lot of different models at different prices and now my question is this:

Are the price variations affected solely by the design or is there quality difference in the wood, feel, hit (eventhough its always a matter of preference like with musical instruments)

I think all schons play the same since they all use the 5/16-14 pin. The price is mainly for the different inlays they use and forearm wood.

When I bought my Schon from dooziexxx, he told me that every schon he's played with hit the same. Schon is very consistent with shaft weights and they all have the same pin. He said the looks are what the money is for, no matter if you buy a STL1 or an Elite. They both will play hte same.
 
I'll agree with the others. The four of them I have shot with all hit the same. Great hitting cues.
 
ive noticed a slight difference in hit from older schons to newer ones.....i prefer the older ones, although the more cues a builder builds the better they should get.
 
My understanding of production made cues is that the same series(by this i mean year manufactured) of cues will all perform similarly, the extra cost goes to how pretty you want it :)

I don't know if this may be a factor or not, but I do not like their shafts when they are brand new; I think they need broke in for a small period first. Is that what you mean, or are you refering to older production shafts altogether?

well i havent shot with a new schon......but ive shot with some that were probably built 99-00-01.......and i liked the hit of mine which was 89-90 better

you know, oddly enough, you get the same response from meucci users also. is it a conspiracy of the cue manufactuers? i wonder...:D

I just ran across this the other day. I thought their prices were excellent on the fancier cues. They're a reliable seller.

Schon's are the best hitting production cues on the market IMO.
 
i believe they all have the same type of hit.. i have also owned and played with some that i felt played really good.. and i have also played with a few friends that i felt played like junk.. i feel the same as what a few people mentioned.. it all depends on what wood they used and the tip combination.. i think they are great cues.. and i loved everyone i have owned..

Original Schon shafts

IMO I would say the difference is in the Schon shafts that have changed a little over the years. Been playing exclusively with a Schon for about 17 years. I have several shafts for my Elite but I prefer the older ones with the "Schon" emblem on the black collar instead of the new ones that have it on the wood. I believe there is less deflection and the wood seems to be very hard and tight grained compared to the newer ones. Once again this is just my opinion based on my experiences.
