A new idea for ANY streamers out there

Please forgive me if this is not new. I have not found it discussed anywhere.

We all know that someone will suggest a match and then lots of people will say I'd buy that, but the numbers don't reflect the people who say they will pay.

My idea is a kickstarter type function, where say you want to see Efren and Earl playing pea pool. The match is advertised and the streamer has a number in mind for what it would take for them + the cost of prize money to make it happen. People who are interested in seeing it pay for the match and if it reaches at least the certain number the streamer had in mind, the event happens.

If for some reason the people don't actually belly up the funds, then refunds are made, minus a $1 or whatever processing fee.

I do know that Justin has said if anyone wants 2 people to play, put up the money and he'll stream it, I'm looking at this from the standpoint of all the people who say they will pay for something, and knowing that there needs to be 10 more streams paid for, so the event happens, it stirs up the Ebay type action.

That is indeed a great idea, and the excellent Accu-Stats Make It Happen events are based on a similar concept.

Personally, I think the whole idea is absolutely brilliant. Everybody wins!
 
Interesting but I definitely see problems with it. Just because a bunch of people want to see two specific players match up, it doesn't mean logistically it can be made to happen. Secondly, people may say they are willing to pay to see it in concept but it still depends on when it is, what time, etc. as far as all those people actually being able to watch it and therefore still be willing to pay for it. Lastly, good luck trying to get nitty pool players to fork over in advance for something that may not happen, much less deduct a service charge from the refund if it doesn't.
 
This is basically the Accu-Stats "make it happen" concept. The costs + prize fund are effectively pre-paid by interested viewers, who in return get a VIP package of goodies. Seems to be working for them.
 
If that's the worst problem, then it's no big deal.

Dogsplayingpool and Tommy have been voted for a match on May 25th 2013 to be streamed by ........ Your fee to watch this match happen is $25 to be paypal'd on or before May 1, 2013.

The second issue about not being able to see it, Justin for one is working on VOD, and other streamers already have the matches up for people to view.

Your third point, good luck getting nitty pool players to fork over in advance. Happens all the time for pool sticks they wont see for years, tournaments they wont play in for a year, auctions they bid on. This is something that players are saying they want, this is a way to see those people plus more step up.

I don't see it as even close.

I want to see Johnny Archer play Rodney Morris 9ball.
Unless someone is already working on that match then this is the only way I know of to get it going. If there are enough others, then it happens, if not, then it wasn't a high enough priority match.

Just using that as an example.

I want the 8, blue circle cue ball, winner break and rack your own or I'm not playin'. :p

This scenario takes care of one of the big issues I saw in the idea - that the date and time is set. This makes it way more inviting for people to pay in advance.
 
Accu-Stats chooses their six players via a vote of the "make it happen" purchasers. So yes, it is actually very close to what you are suggesting.

I suppose a player can turn down an Accu-Stats invitation, but so far I don't think anyone has. Accu-Stats pays travel + hotel + a prize fund and charges no entry fee, so it is a pretty good deal for the pros compared to other tournaments in the US.

I like the fact that your idea provides limitless options. The challenge is that you still need someone to organize everything. It's a lot of work.
 
Only thing that sticks in my craw is the processing fee. I'm being charged a buck to offer an opinion on who should match up?

How about this: anyone can pay a relatively meaningless sum toward making something happen. Like one to five bucks. instead of paying a processing fee they're investing in a future match. When the goal is reached, (with no time limit, might be nickels and dimes gradually pouring in over a year), the match happens. Then anyone can buy the stream, but those who made an initial investment to make it happen get their investment deducted from the stream price. Everyone else pays full price. The goal can be enough to cover the players' and streamer's nut. The stream money is then split up the middle between streamer and players.

You're just nit picking. TAR has it's own base rules and table, this type of thing you're talking about is easily fixable and a non issue.
