A new tip for my sledgehammer break cue

I'm totally wanting to take of the phenolic tip off my sledge. A couple of pool buddies bounced a couple of different tips towards me. One said he liked the water buffalo and the other said to look into the white diamond. I'm not sure which to use? I know i wanted a solid solid hitting tip but i want one that will deliver a square and hard hit but holds chalk and doesn't miscue all the time like the phenolic. Any suggestions?

What tip you need just depends on your style of break. If you want a hard break and be able to control the cue ball, I like a Samsara.

Depends if you want your tip to be BCA legal too. I don't play BCA so I can use any material, but I prefer a leather tip for better cue ball control.

Yeah, I only gamble and play open tournaments so BCA rules wouldn't matter. I break pretty hard- usually average 22-24 mph. So I need a tip that can hold up but give me some good control as well.

Samsara is pretty friggin' hard. I'd suggest that first. Then I'd suggest a kamui black hard.

I use a White Diamond. It hits like a hammer. I'm in love with it.

It's the kind of hit that makes others in the pool room stop, look around and say, "Who the hell was THAT?". :)

My ferrule/tip on your Sledgehammer is outdated and almost guaranteed to crack with conventional tips. My new ferrule and hard leather tip is on my Sledgehammer replacement called the Anvil. My new tip and ferrule is unconditionally warrantied and will deliver the best hit and hold chalk like it should.

Try a MADMAN B/j tip, good control and holds chalk well.............

You should definately try one of madmans break tips, they are as hard as aluminum but hold chalk well, and they are leather. They are priced right and are as good or better than any of the tips on the market, imo. All of my customers love his break tips.

I now this is an old thread, but...

I had to say that I've always had minor issues with phenolic tips and miscueing..UNTIL I used my kamui chalk as the chalk to use before I break or even jump. Everyone here knows that chalking a phenolic tip with regular chalk and getting it to stay on as well as stay on evenly is a task. Even at that, most of it comes off even before you strike the cb. Although kamui chalk is great chalk overall, I never liked it for my regular playing tips, regular chalk always did the job for me, but using the kamui chalk for breaking and jumping is a God send. Never had an issue breaking/jumping with ANY phenolic tip as long as I'm chalking with the Kamui chalk.
