a nice story

I thought I would change things up by mentioning a nice thing that happened. The other day, as some of you might have known from one of my posts, I was walking home in the rain and thought my cues were protected. A few hours later I realized that some moisture had gotten into the case and had gotten in contact with at least one of my cues. A new Schon. DAMMM!!!!. The wrap was wet, and the next day both the butt and shaft had a wobble to them. I called a local cue maker (Michael Wagner) Raven Cues. He knew the severity of the situation and the obvious weight this was on my shoulders. I can't afford to loose a cue. He was working on another cue so at the drop of a hat his wife offered to drive forty plus minutes to pick up the cue and despite feeling a little under the weather, he spent several hours working on it. He dried, repressed and sealed the wrap, fixed the shaft, used forced dry air to dry the butt and sealed the weight bolt chamber. And, after all that, no strain on my bank account. I knew
from the first time I dealt with him he was a class act, 100 percent. And every dealing I have had with him has just confirmed this.
It wasn't even one of his cues. I know this may be improper, so please
don't flame me, but I would like to plug Raven cues for a moment. The hit is
nothing like you have ever felt before. Very Solid. If you just play around on
his website you will see why. I have never seen a cue maker put so much effort into the hit as opposed to cosmetics.
Again, I apologize for the plug, but, I am doing this more so to help
you guys out.

PS, Blud, check out his cues, I would love your opinion since your cues are top
notch as well.

Race to how many?

In a final of one of the pro 9 ball events last year in the uk, one of the players forgot to move his marker after winning a rack. He got to 10 - 6 (it was a race to 11) but no-one realised he had actually won the game at that point! It went hill-hill and the player ended up winning luckily.

After seeing that I ALWAYS make sure that I move my marker.

I just now got around to reading this post and thought I would tell you of my story of Michael Wagner. I went to him to have a phenolic tip put on my J/B. He put the tip on, while explaining that, because the tip was so hard, if hit off-center, it would find the weakest point (the glue on the McDermott) and possably pop off. Well. it did. I went back to him, and he installed a water buffalo tip at no cost.
Well, I guess I can't find the center of the CB, 'cause I popped this tip also (this makes 3, counting the original). Again, I went back to Raven, half expecting to have him throw me out of his shop (I was feeling like his personal reoccuring nightmare by this time). Instead, he came up with an idea of making the ferrel & tip ALL one piece. He makes the tip in 2-3 days, I go back to pick it up, and he hands me back my $20.00 and says "play with it a while, if you like it, mail me back the twenty"
I played for 2-3 weeks, with no problems at all. Needless to say I mailed him a check. But, the service I got, not to mention the conversations we had on materials and cues in general prompted me to put an order in for one of his new "Tiger Shark series" cues.
I am now the proud owner on SN-TS086. To wrap this up, it has been my great pleasure to come to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and meet Michael, a craftsman who cares about both his product AND his customers.

Nice story. Sounds as if the man really loves his work.

Some just hate to see good workmanship go to waste.
