This is a pool story that starts in 1984 and ends in 1996, so I'll try to get to the meat of the story as fast as I can.

Back in 84' I was in a night club in Little Rock,Ar., I was playing some cheap 9-Ball for $5 a game when this guy challenged the table. It didn't take long for me and this person to go at it head-up for $20.

Well I got up $200 pretty quick, thats all the cash this fellow had on him, he ask me to play some on credit for $20, and he would go to the ATM machine after it was over if he was loser. I thought to myself, I'm winner already, so why not.

It didn't take but a few hours and I was up $200 on credit, and he ask if I wanted to ride with him to the ATM machine to get paid and he would drop me back off (he seemed tobe a nice guy so I rode with him, what the hell!) he paid me in full.

Never saw the guy again until one afternoon in Texarkana,Ar. in 94', I was at my brothers poolroom/nightclub, he came walking in the door, reconized him from 10 years ago.
He ordered a drink and began hitting balls by himself, so I walked over and asked him if he would like to play some $2.00 8-Ball, he said sure why not.

The game soon went to $10, then $20 a game, either he had been practicing or played 8-Ball better than 9-Ball because the game was kinda going back and forth. I was up about four games after two hours, I asked him to play 9-Ball, so we did.

It wasn't long before I had won $400 playing 9-Ball and he said he had had enough. We sat around after the match and talked a long time, kinda got to know each other, other than pool.

He and I had a common intrest in hunting and fishing, reloading bullets and shooting guns, also he had a 500 acre farm outside of town about 12 miles and invited me out. I jumped at the chance to get to the outdoors some.

We became good friends afterwards and never gambled against each other again, partnered up alot on pool games and made some good scores here and there.

One morning in 96' he came by my house real early and asked if I would come out to his farm and help feed his cows and horses, then reload some bullets and shoot guns for awhile, then head to the bar for pool and drinks, I said sure, I got my "joss sneaky pete" and off we went.

Well I didn't have any rubber boots for that kind of work so he gave me a spare pair of his to use, we fed 100 cows and 40 horses hay and grain, by
that time, I had hay all over me and manure on the boots and paints I was wearing. After reloading some bullets and shooting the guns at targets forawhile we took off for the bar.

We went to the R&R Lounge, it's a small private club with two bar tables.
You have to sign-in at the door, it had a hallway there and another door to go through to the poolroom/bar but it was open, and you could see the two bar tables easily.

While signing-in I noticed two guys playing 8-Ball (all this time I was still wearing the rubber boots, manure on them and my paints, and hay in my hair)

One of the guys that was loosing some decent money to the other player noticed me signing-in and popped off "I'll play the guy signing the book for $100 agame"

Well he was just trying to shark the guy he was playing, because he was $200 loser at $20, but he didn't know I would take him up on the bet.
The way I LQQKED, I would of said the same thing!....lol

I replied to the man,"Let me get a cold beer and I'll be right with ya!"
The other player knew me and wanted no part of me, so when I put up my fifty-cents he sat out.

I only had $112.00 on me, so I had to come out fast on the guy, I beat him five games in a row for $100, that broke the dude, he was already $200 loser playing the other fellow.

The other player decided he would "balls-up" and try me agame, since I had all the money and he was up a few. I beat him one game for $100 and he quit.

That put me up $600 in about twenty minutes, the guy that was loser had a friend with him that wanted to play my friend, I backed him and my friend won $200.

I just split the money down the middle $400 each, nice guy I guess!

It just goes to show, what your looking at may not be what it is, sometimes a "cowhand" can shoot pool too!

Me and my friend "Mike Turner" had a good day that day, not my best, but a good one indeed!

The world today would make me leary to ride to the ATM with a strange I just beat out of money. Glad it worked out, Making a new friend was worth more than the money IMO.

Not now,no way!

Your exactly right, but back then I was still money hungry and green, but it worked out and I made a true friend in the long run!...got lucky, but that roll of quarters in my fist may have helped on the ride to the ATM, if it had turned bad.

Alchemy

David,
Your knowledge of alchemy is second to none. Turning manure into cash is a lost art. :woot:

I loved the well-written story and would like to hear about your recent hunting trip as well.

great story as usual!

David,

A great story as usual. Glad you are back from vacation and hope you enjoyed it. The last few years I was shooting pool pretty regularly I had horses and the wife had bought a few calves that I spent a fair amount of time doctoring and feeding. I usually wore semi-round toe cowboy boots, jeans, and a pocket tee shirt, sometimes a denim work shirt if it was cold. Perhaps that authentic o'de barnyard smell on me helped me get games sometimes too.

Just a minor chuckle, my wife and I were on the way to the barn when we noticed that a fair had set up in the small town my shop was in. I noticed people looking at me strangely but didn't think anything of it. I'd been walking around thirty minutes or so before I noticed the syringe and needle hanging out of my shirt pocket filled with trank for a horse I was going work on.

Enjoyed the stories always do. Gives real meaning to "shit kicker."

More is better.

I can just see you walking around with the syringe and getting strange looks in town. LOL

Around here most people live on farms, in a hollow or up on some ridge so ya'll would be right at home. Might be Ohio but we are 20 minutes from West by God Virginia and all the players dress that way, well maybe not Shawn Putnam but he sure played a lot of pool out here.
