a question regarding a Dufferin cue

Hail Mary Shot

Yesterday, I went out with my wife to try and look for a cue for her personal use. since she's still in the initial phase of enjoying the game, I didn't want to disappoint her and diminish her learning the game by buying a cheap cue that doesn't hit good or atleast shoot straight. so we went to the nearest shop that we could find and look for a player's cue. unfortunately, that shop didn't have Player's but got some Dufferins. so I bought her a Dufferin instead. I just dunno if they were made in Canada or China. that Dufferin got a laminated plastic design on the forearm and butt (god, the design was ugly for a man to handle but would work just fine for a woman's taste, it got a nasty paint job and some pink color on the veneers, :D ). I don't know exactly what wood type is the forearm and butt, but from my observation, it wasn't that dense and probably a hardrock maple. so, anyone who's got an idea on this? besides, I don't want to tamper her property out of my curiousity.that wouldn't be nice :D :D :D !!!

in excess, that cue is straight and hits solid despite it's ugly design. even I myself am embarrassed to post it's picture here, lol. Dunno, but I might remove the laminate on it if she let's me, hahaha. the cue also got the maple design on its butt. though I'm not familiar with either one being made in China or Canada.

It seems like you did well,i played with a Dufferin for awhile and it played pretty good,it was just a simple sneaky pete.;)

tnx Lenny !!! it really seems a great choice for her (poolwise). now, I just need to work on that horrendous design, lol. :D :D :D

My first cue was a Dufferin, awsome cue for the money, I also know a guy that had one, he just recently, (past couple years) retired that old dufferin, I know t had to be at least 15 years he had that cue.. and believe me, that guy can play...

I could be wrong but I recall reading a awhile ago , Dufferin went out of business a couple years ago. The name is now only the name and the cues are imported out of China and not at all what Canadian Dufferin were known for.

Playitdirect.ca I think is the Importer now.

I agree, the new Dufferins are made in China. As to it's looks and playability, if she likes it there's no problem, so leave it alone....
:p

tnx for the info. I looked at some of the Dufferin cues being sold at Playdirect and didn't find the one which I had bought for my wife. it is probably one of those rare leftovers from the past, left unnoticed on the shelf. I don't know much about cues made from China since I don't own one but rather heard of them cues not of good playability. but if it's good, then probably they are improving a lot when it comes to making quality cues. otherwise, the original canadian made would still be the best choice.
