A Report from the Lou v. Barton Match

Have some class man. BTW - this is the first post I have ever reported.

Lol yep Joe he talked a good game and brought this to the table! Lol
Looks like fish heads for the help all year at JB copies all year!
I found it odd that he stated he sold all his custom cases at SBE how can it be custom if it wasn't ordered!

The only taste you show is distaste.

If John was getting coached on shots where the coach had 2 or 3 seconds to observe the layout and give advise it would have to be the all time dumbest coaching situation ever in one-pocket. I am a pretty fast player and I would have to be at the table to observe the layout and make my decision and I could very rarely do it in 2 or 3 seconds (unless it was completely obvious). If I was playing an inferior player and they requested Scott Frost could coach them for 2 to 3 seconds before they got up to shoot (whispering only) I would gladly accept and probably raise the bet because it would totally confuse just about any player. Very, very difficult from the sidelines to see the shot in seconds, never mind make a decision and relay it in a miniscule time period.

Lou has been playing forever and knows most of the best shots and it still took him several minutes or longer to make a decision while at the table and observing the layout.

To reason that someone on the sidelines could give valuable coaching in a 2 to 3 second time period is ridiculous.

You mean like John showed for the last 4 months?

Still don't understand the fact people just don't want to admit that the bad blood he spills he bought upon himself.

To all: The internet is more than 10 years old.

Now that is out of my system.

They both played their respective speeds IMHO. They both had months to find gears. I don't think either one is better or worse than they showed. Lou is the prototypical old time conservative one hole player, and John tried to bring offense. Sometimes he hit, most times he did not. The game on a triple shim is no joke, and you can't rifle balls in unless you are perfect.

It was pretty standard, shoot / miss with cover strategy when applied. It was definitely entertaining. To those that think John or Lou missed opportunities, they probably did, but only if they shot 1 or 2 balls better than they do. They played their respective games, IMHO.

To those that do not play one pocket, try it, it is not easy. A lot of places don't have a dedicated tight box, you need to find one.

Hats off to both, regardless of my feelings towards one, they played to settle a score. Old time shoot out, with no cactus.

Easy there with the rocks... You realize everyone can use the search feature to inspect the glass house one is about to start throwing them around in and determine who lives there..... Seems folks tend to forget that.... :poke:

I see a whole list of folks in the JB/Lou threads that this applies to... Yes myself included....

Oh, you can coach in a few seconds

If John was getting coached on shots where the coach had 2 or 3 seconds to observe the layout and give advise it would have to be the all time dumbest coaching situation ever in one-pocket. I have a few coaching situations that could make a huge difference even in a few seconds for a weaker player like Barton.
For instance :
There are 2 balls left and Barton has seven. The coach whispers jaw the 2 ball, that way Lou can't win on one shot.... Thats a pretty advanced move for a nervous guy who doesn't know the game well. The announcers even commented on it...
How about whispering don't move a certain ball its in his banking lane...
How about whispering trying to shark the other guy into believing you were getting coached.
You have a couple of weaker players who play pretty even, i would bet on the guy receiving coaching.
I can think of a bunch of things you could say to a guy in a split second to give a guy a edge.

Kinda surprised that I seem to be the only one that listened to the rules at the beginning. It was stated that JB had a "cornerman", and the announcer wasn't sure if Lou had one or not, but did have two backers to act as "cornerman" for him. So, since they were both allowed the use of a cornerman, why the accusations of cheating by using one???

I've seen many matches that you were allowed to be coached every shot as a stipulation of the bet. They were saying JB didn't have a corner man today. I don't know if he was coached or not or if it was in the rules or not. Maybe he'll come on and clear that up.

Anyone think to take a video of the alleged coaching?

it was a streamed match at which i was only a spectator. It wasn't my job or any other spectator's to to video or police anything. Shame that there wasn't a stream camera pointed in their direction. Bottom line is it was between john, lou (+his backers), accustats, and ed liddawi to do or say something about it during the match.

A couple of people and myself are telling you what we saw. you take it for whatever you think its worth. If we told you we saw so and so take money outa someone else's wallet would you feel safe leaving anything around the guy just because we didn't film it?

also for your pics or it didnt happen line your linked definition:

anyone here really think what we said is unbelievable or outlandish?

the buzz in the spectator seating area was "I cant believe lou or his guys aren't saying anything... do you think somebody will?"

oh well karma wins. Im not a JBnutCase fan by any means, wouldn't know lou from a hole in the wall, and i had no $$ on the match, but I'm glad the cheating didn't pay off and I had a great time hangin with Koop n Fred.

I don't know how much coaching there was, what impact it may have had - but there WAS some - I'd bet my prized pink slip on it (No, I am not a cross dresser). I'm not saying I heard it from ... personally.

If I was playing Joe Blow one on one for $20k and Joe had SVB secretly in his ear, and I lost - I'm not sure how I would handle it. Lou overcame it.

I believe you, Koop, KK9, etc. are confident in what you saw.

But yes, it genuinely seems a bit outlandish to me--it's tough to see how useful information about a complex situation could be conveyed in 1-2 seconds (presumably, without the alleged coach studying the table or even pointing at balls or the table); Lou didn't say anything in real time; and John played fast. On the other hand, a "corner man" can give encouraging words or platitudes in no time (don't jump up on your shots, don't force shots, don't blow your lead, keep the pressure on him, etc.)

None of that makes it impossible. And I wasn't there and the posters on this thread were. At least the outcome wasn't affected by any coaching, whether real, suspected, or imagined.

I had fun watching it. I should have gone in person.

Does it matter? We all know that if you have 5-6 witnesses that saw the guy pull off every bad coaching move in the book, you know it happened. So now he lost with coaching to boot.

Lets see...

Coaching check

CTE Check

Woofing superiority Check

10K... whoops...

That's priceless

There was an African American man sitting next to Barton and his wife. Lou could not see this man at first. From Lou’s perspective, this guy was behind a pillar. Between shots, this man would cover his mouth and whisper to Barton.

A couple of guys who were sweating the match that had a different perspective than Lou noticed this, but they did not say anything.

After play last night, Barton was confronted with the accusation that he was being coached; he admitted it.

I thought this was all over an aiming system that JB had created and raved about? Needing a coach would prove that the system is flawed and therefore, even if he had won it would have been a false victory.

Nothing he's created - he's just a fan / user of aiming systems in general. From what I gather Lou isn't.

So why not use one of those systems in the match instead of using a coach?

EDIT:

And what use is an aiming system if you don't use a touch of inside? :D

I missed that part. I did see JB break out some rule sheets. I trust you Neil and that changes the landscape. I'm not sure what a coroner man is permitted to do. ;)

I'd suspect he has to remain seated and can't unduly delay play. And that walking around the table was forbidden. I'm surprised this was allowed. I'm not sure therefore why it was all whisper this and be incognito behind a pillar though.

Perhaps Lou or JB will elaborate.

So why not use one of those systems in the match instead of using a coach?

From what I've heard the coach was either (if you listen to Barton) someone to give him a pep talk / moral encouragement type of thing between games, or (if you listen to certain others) giving him tactical advice on shot selection, etc..
