the subject... quarters under a rail as you will find in bar conditions just about everywhere..

I'd like to see some high speed footage of bank shots where the ball hits the rail right where the quarter is tucked under..

does the rail actually compress enough for the quarter to effect the shot... does the ball touch the quarter?

I was shooting on a bar table tonight and I have a felling that the quarters effected a couple of shots...

I for one detest the practice of putting quarters under the rail... but I want to know if I have a legitimate argument to get them removed and placed elsewhere..

do they effect the shot ? or not?
 
Why are they there? If it's to use as counting devices why not use pennies?
 
This is interesting.In NY we didn't use coins but out here in AZ we do,curious as to if the coins affect the game besides being an eyesore.
 
Personally, I like to use Nickels. Pennies can get stuck under the seam of the rail. Quarters have to be flush against the seam of the rail because if it is sticking out, you will definitely have ball to coin contact.
 
We use pennies around here, they aren't much good for anything else.

If it wasn't for sales tax, I'm sure the Gov(Canada) would have got rid of them a long time ago.
 
for scoring devices perhaps other coins work better and possibly even some of them could come into play on very hard bank shots.


but on a bar table you need a bunch of quarters anyway.. and when playing a challenge table where each shooter puts their quarters on the table in line for a game some choose to place them under the rail.. it bugs the hell out of me...

I just want proof so the next time the guy tells me it doesn't effect the shot... I can pop out my laptop and show him it does.. and if it turns out that he was right I'll quit worrying about it.
