A rich, dark red wood?

Madagascar rosewood (Dalbergia maritima), known as bois de rose...

Shouldnt be too awfully hard...

Bringing up this old thread that I started......

Bois de Rose is what I'm looking for. I think I found a source, but I may be on a waiting list. Anyone have experience with it? I saw some amazing stuff by BHQ.
It bleeds like a stuck pig. Be careful of the woods and veneers that lay next to it.

I don't think so. I know, I know, the name is rose, so you think red - but it refers to
Rosewood, not Rose wood.

Bois de Rose is cranberry when freshly cut.

Bloodwood is what you want.

As Dale said, bois de rose is not red. It is purple-ish and will turn almost black like ebony over time. Here is a Blue Grass with a bois de rose forearm. Looks like ebony.

Thanks, all. Yes, I've changed my tastes a bit. I want a reddish-purple that is so dark it almost looks black.

BHQ made an amazing cue with the Bois de Rose. Just loved it.

I'm currently trying to come up with a plan for my cuemaker, Gary Johnson. Looks like we'll be going with a semi-matching set of a player and breaker.

If anyone has any pics of Bois de Rose cues, please share them.

Btw, thx for the tip about this wood bleeding into surrounding materials. I'll talk to Gary about it.

Might try a search for koa wood, some can be a deep red with beautiful figuring. Might be difficult to find and a bit pricey.
