A Safety so good it deserves it's own thread

The cb was very close to hitting the yellow off that 2nd cushion, so I'd say he hit exactly where he needed/intended. He wanted the cb behind the blue ball and hopefully the red would stop behind one of the other balls up table. The main goal was to hide the cb, which he did quite well. Freezing it up against the ball was a great bonus.

Sweet shot. When a player calls me lucky for pulling off a great safety, I know the truth --- you make your own luck by imagining the exact shot you want to execute and then hitting it as well as possible to achieve what you imagine, believing 100% that you'll get your desired results. Sometimes it works out even better than you thought it would, and that's a great bonus.

I think you play the object ball more than the cue ball on that shot, and, if that's the case, the main goal was to leave the red ball closer to the middle of the table, which means he over-hit the shot and got lucky to find the pink like that.

Or, maybe he's God.

Helluva jab that was. Im sure its been said but what is the advantage of those cues over everything else, or is there none and that's just the way they've always been so they stick with it.

It seems more difficult to estimate where the red ball will stop after going back and forth a few times compared to sending the cb 3 rails to a known location. Looks like he was playing the cb, not froze to blue but simply somewhere behind it. Or he was playing both ways, and if the cb wouldn't have rolled behind the blue the red may have tucked in behind one of those other balls. But I think he was 100% playing cb position, and the bonus was supposed to be the red ending up behind the other balls. Instead, his bonus was sticking the cb directly on the blue ball. It happens.
