A serious pause in my stroke

Was playing Friday, hitting them with an old buddy. Things started off okay the first rack, then out of nowhere, I develop a serious pause in my stroke. I mean..... I've had a little hitch back there (try to emulate Shane) but this was different.

My back arm just literally froze, and my body moved forward and up just slightly as if the shot was already over, but I hadn't taken a forward stroke.

I couldn't pull the trigger, multiple times this happened. Easy shots, hard ones. Didn't matter. It was so weird I unscrewed and spent the next two days playing trying to figure it out.

What could it have been? Anyone else have something like that happen?

you got the yeps! idk how to spell that. its happens to golf players. look up yeps in golf some guy spitting trying to put the ball :)

good luck and go see a shrink

Put your gaddam crazy away for a while. We trying ta play pool over here and we dont wanna catch what you got.

Seriously,,, if i watch svb play, i gotta wait like 48 hours to play any pool that matters. That pause is not for everyone.

True!! I am the same way.

I feel that exact same way....... only my Achilles heel in viewing a stroke (or lack there of) is Mike Davis.

If I watch him play on stream or especially in person, I gotta go put the case in the backyard and bury it.

Thanks for the responses guys, could be the yips, and BB I promise as soon as that set was over I unscrewed so no one could catch what I got. Maybe the caffeine? There was a sheriff in the room the whole time, leaning over the rail and watching us. That honestly wasn't bothering me.

Maybe just time to do some "stay down and follow through" drills? Just to keep my mind in check with my rhythm?

In golf it's called the yips. Usually happens when bringing the putter forward.

I feel it happens because doubt has entered the mind during the stroke about the shot. I'd suggest revisiting your pre-shot routine. Burn that contact point into your mind.

Haha...Mike is a-ok by me.

But you? Dont let it happen again!

Sticky hand or shaft?

Sticky hand.... haha never heard it called that.

But yeah, my back hand would freeze, my body would twitch up as if I'd just watched the shot go in and was getting ready to stand for the next one. And the shaft hand would be "subconsciously" bending. I say subconscious because I just realized it, my hand was planted, and I would be slightly pushing my back foot weight forward, as if to "coax" myself into pulling the trigger.

Man, the more I describe it, the worse it gets. Stay away everyone!

I meant literally a sticky bridge hand or shaft.

The article says “ drugs and booze destroyed ..............Greenleaf and Mosconi “

What, I know Greenleaf liked to nip but Mosconi ???
Yeah, Mosconi's game and stroke declined rapidly after he retired from competition. Watching his Legends match vs Cranfield on youtube, in which both players were in their early 60s at the time of the match, was very sad to watch their bodily twitches and jerky strokes in comparison to how current players of a similar age now, such as Efren, can still play.

Mosconi drank a lot of coffee and smoked three packs a day. In his early 40's he suffered a stroke and gave up the bad habits. Later on in life he suffered from the onset of Alzheimers.

If you are speaking of ESPN's Legends of Pocket Billiards series, that was on air in the early 80's, making Mosconi close to 70, and retired from competition for 20 years or so.
