With out going into detail, Archer and I are are great friends-not because of pool. hell I hardly ever watch his matches, until recently mentioned him on here because much because friendship isnt pool related. Were just friends. Just for fun we played a little 10 ball to get him warmed up for his match, we played 2 races to 5 on a Diamond that is the triple nuts perfect yesterday.

I won the first rack I think and should have stopped, I did the same thing to Tang but I didnt. Man I'd be a world beater. ;). I warmed up, back was bad and I could only arm break which is a disaster in any game especially 10 ball. I wasnt hitting them too bad considering how bad I have been playing. He is my friend so I wanst intimated nervious etc. I felt ok except my break wasnt working AT ALL-my back was ridgid and it was just a arm break. Johnny and I over the past year have played 2 times, at home we bang them around taking turns at the table but never races, like I said he is my friend not pool buddy.

I have played alot of super strong players, down to bangers that I give the 5 and the break to. I'm mentally tough blah blah blah. How the hell he ever loses a set is beyond me, Granted he did get 3 rolls, I have never ever been so helpless in my life playing someone, I know the the feeling when I play bangers, but I have never been beat so easily, it was amazing just amazing. The night before I broke out even with Jay Helfert who is a better player than me but at least i'm kinda in the game and can win Jay has to work for it to win, I have had Cory Harper beats me real bad too, but I was sick(flu) once he beats me easily even when I'm ok.

But Archer is from another planet. WOW is all I have to say. As everyone here knows he has a monster career, but to go up against that was unlike anything i ever saw, I wont mention the spot as I never saw it so it dosent matter, but it was a monster spot I couldnt give a banger. I a better rack boy now.

When they get that pool school thing going you gotta play him, well rack for him, I have never ever on my worst match felt so helpless, who the hell someone gets that good I just dont understand. In the last set I one one game otherwise I never saw the table and when I did I was so locked up Efren wouldnt have liked it.

Amazing, nothing we didnt know but I wanted to share it, also being that close to him when he was playing you really get to see and feel how sweet he hits the balls, its just so natural, automatic. I cant describe it but when the balls hit the hole it was just different, I occasionally hit a shot wit hthat sound, he hits almost of them like that,

The last time I played him I broke and came up dry, he ran out. Next game he broke and ran out, next game he broke and ran out. So I'm 3 down and I have only played one shot and sat and watched the rest. At that point I explained how stupid the game was and how I don';t want to play anymore. That was my experience and I agree, it's just a different level altogether. The first pool school by the way is in Alerquerque, NM on the 32st of the this month. I am right now working on San Francisco, Sacramento, and Oregon. Thankls for your hospitality again Eric, I had a blast.

A long time ago I watched Alex P. warm up before a tournament. Long ago, I think he must have been 5. Well, older than that but I doubt he could drink legally.

When he shot, you can tell it was a different hit he put on than the mere humans in the room. Those guys must have something in the DNA that allows them such skill.

I think it is in the DNA. There got to be something that alines everything right for playing pool. Bones the right length the muscle control, the perfect depth perception and rock hard will to keep your head straight (which can be learned to some extent.) maybe someone should do a study on these things. Other athletes especially the greats all have some common attributes that you could probably link together.

Get Archer to come to Baltimore for a school. I will take him out to the best golf course in the state (ranked #38 in US by Golfweek). I know he loves golf too.

I just wish he'd start doing some clinics/etc. at the room in Georgia (10 min from me) that he bought into last year... :(

Practicing 12 hours a day, six days a week for 2-3 years doesn't hurt, either.. :-)

A lot of people say "I couldn't even get anywhere close to that good, even if I practiced 12 hours a day for a couple of years!"

Bah.

Tommy Kennedy and Mike Davis both prove you don't have to have perfect form to get the balls in the hole. A lot of what separates great players from good players is knowledge of the game. There are a lot of players out there with really great strokes, but do they know what the highest percentage play is when there is no shot? There is a reason why Grady, Billy, and Danny can give no more than two options on almost every shot or safety, and the top pros take one of those two options 99% of the time. A lot of times when you watch good local players, they are nowhere close to the right play.

Now, mind you.. I very much do believe Archer to be a VERY special case. He has the extreme will to win that not even many champions have.

I am saying a lot of people of sound mind and body sell themselves short. I think a lot of people just don't have the TIME to get to a very high level, so they believe they do not have the ABILITY to get to a very high level. I guess that is the difference between champions and regular players.

Champions never sell themselves short mentally. :D

Russ he was running 4 packs from the beginning, with no help. I played for years no job, girl, distractions, no $$$ so I HAD to win and none of that would get me close to his speed.

We were at a airport once, I was going to tell this story about 6 months ago and didnt. Anyways were at an aipport in the baggage claim area in a baggage carresol that was 4 carresol's infront of us he was reading the flight numbers etc. I have 20/15 vision with my contacts on and couldnt see the numbers let alone what the hell they were-not even blurry dots, and he could read them plain as day. I walked up one carresol and coukld read them but man it was crazy how he could see that, his vision is like 20/5 or 20/7.5, its crazy. Same with road signs, And I have good eyes corrected I started pool with 20/15 vision and didnt need contacts. He sees things most people dont.

Guys like him are born with everything it takes, he sees the angles of the balls differently too, its hard to explain here for me but when he at the table and goes in to the stack playing 14.1 often he knows how much energy each ball will pick up and how far they will go, most people just know the stack is gonna open up, he sees what % of energy is transfered to each ball. He was a genious at geometry in school, they couldnt figure why he was so smart at it and normal at other things, like me I cant spell but let me do the math in my head or memorize a phone number its easy. he is a pool machine.

You have no idea just HOW RIGHT you are with that statment, your other assessments are close and fairly accurate but the one above is spot on. I wont elaborate on it, except to say I havent ever met anyone with half the will to do anything that he has to win short of me not being sucessful-thats why were friends, we share a similar will to suceed at all costs.

I'm the type of guy that is going to go to my first pro event and ask my heroes to play me a race to 5 for $100 even though I am a B player.

I'm also the type of guy that might tell them they need to post up.:D :D

I defenitely want to get an hour lesson from Ga Young Kim. Maybe I will act like I'm so new and my stroke is so bad that she will do that whole arm around your body holding the cue with you thing that guys do to teach their girlfriends.

But seriously, will most pros let you play them for $100 straight up? What will most pros charge for a Quick 1 hour lesson while at the Derby?
