Linda,

I am a player that was in the Seattle/Tacoma area around 1995-1998, and I saw another post detailing what's been going on in WA state pool. I did not know the 211 club had closed!! That is so sad. I was thinking about moving back to WA state, and the 211 club would have been one of my first visits. please tell me Dr. Cues is still open in Bothell.

You mentioned a friend of yours that ended up marrying J.D., was she the one who always knitted while J.D. was in action or in a tournament? She was such a nice girl. I was always jealous of J.D. in that respect. All the players would never curse within earshot of her. She never really let on how good J.D. was, either, hah hah.

I remember there was some place up north that was having a big break pot, and all the gamblers were buying large amounts of tickets, and then staking top players in the break and run contest. Mike got his chance first, since almost everyone was willing to ride their chance on Mike, and he either didn't make a ball on the break, or had no shot on the one. Then, J.D. got a chance for half the break pot, made a ball on the break, ran down to the six or seven.. He took a break... powdered his hands.. calmed himself.. Then promptly stepped into the shot, got down, and hopped the cue ball directly over the object ball and into the pocket. That was heartbreaking. I think you were there, if I am not mistaken. J.D. just had this stunned look on his face.. I felt so bad for him.

I never got to see Mike play Harry P. at all. I did see one of Harry's sessions, he was playing Tim T. when I got there, and it looked like a fairly even game. Harry played J.D. getting 9-6 I believe, and got pretty well trounced. I remember J.D. was very good at freezing the cue ball to balls in one pocket.

Have you seen Rick Jones or Arlene Stuart? They were the owners of City Lights Billiards in Tacoma. Rick was a pretty intense guy. I snuck in City Lights when I was 19 or 20, and started doing well in the Wednesday nine ball tourney. I bragged to some other players on the military post about it, got ratted out, and banned from City Lights until I turned 21. When I came back, I started playing better and placing 3rd or 4th in the 9 ball tournaments, but could never get past Mike Z. or J.D.. It was nerves more than anything else, as I had the abilities certainly to control a race to three.

I see Jeff Jimenez is still playing. If I am not mistaken, his game has picked up a bit. Have you talked to him lately? I might be mistaken, but was he dating Kimberly Kirk at one point?

You may not recognize the name, as I was only active for about a year, and always tightened up in the regional tourneys, but I think Andrea Saenz probably would recognize the name, as well as Clark Smith. I know Andrea is still there in Tacoma, is Clark still playing? I'd definitely like to get in touch with him, Andrea, or her boyfriend (ex?, husband?) Ray (I think).

One last thing: Ask Mike if he still has the billiard player collectable card I sold him. It'd be nice to know if that was something he kept in his collection.

Yes, it was very sad when the 211 closed, but Dr. Cues is still open. In fact Matt or Jeff has posted about their new webcam. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=38456

Tamar was just a flat out sweetheart. I miss her, but she was pretty young for him. We would all take road trips in our RV together, so I got to know her quite well. No, it was my friend Heather that he married...a sales executive with a medical company like mine, so we got along great too. I don't think JD took to someone he couldn't control.

I think that was at Shotze's.

Mike used to be the best one pocket player here (actually, may still be, lol), gave Harry 10-6, but then Parica came one time and schooled him. Parica shot absolutely crazy hero shots...and made them! Mike hasn't played a lot of one pocket since Harry stopped gambling so much. Platisville is a ghost town now. ;) Also, Mike is playing almost nothing but 8 ball now.

That's funny, so you were a pup when you were here? Rick Jones was in Mexico, Arlene lives in TX. I am pretty good friends with his daughter, Karina. I will attach a picture of her and her new husband, Greg.

When I came back, I started playing better and placing 3rd or 4th in the 9 ball tournaments, but could never get past Mike Z. or J.D.. It was nerves more than anything else, as I had the abilities certainly to control a race to three.

Yep, races to 3, the best player definitely did not have to win, but usually did. Mike held the record there, I think with 14 weeks in a row winning it.

I see Jeff Jimenez is still playing. If I am not mistaken, his game has picked up a bit. Have you talked to him lately? I might be mistaken, but was he dating Kimberly Kirk at one point?

Yes, his game has improved. We talk every now and then. He posts on here as MisterJ and his buddy, CigarDave talk some. He went with Kerry Hartsfield, but now he goes with another nice gal named Susan. Kerry married Mark Impson and moved down near me, and has 2 adorable little towhead girls. I feel like their auntie. She posts on here too as Kerry Impson and was doing articles for AZB too.

Andrea and her husband, Larry, are still at City Lights, but not running things anymore. Clark owns or manages City Lights now. Last year, Andrea was on my BCA team. On her way to Vegas, her mother and stepfather were in a motorcycle accident and she lost her mother and the stepdad lost his leg. It was a very sad time for her but she played on anyway. I gained a lot of respect for her on that trip.

Yes, Mike still has the billiard card collection.

Russ, I hope you do move back up this way. If you do or even just visit, let me know!

Here is a better picture of Karina. It was funny, because we have the same names for our daughters, so Rick and I would always laugh. My daughter's name is spelled Carina, though.

Yah, I seem to remember her coming in City Lights a few times. Never knew Rick had a daughter, though. I DO remember that place has some cute waitresses! For sure!

Rick was a good player in his day. He destroyed me on a barbox playing 8 ball the first time I walked into his hall. I got better with practice, and eventually I was able to consistently beat him at 9 ball on both 9 and 7 footers, and had his number in One Pocket on the 9 footers, as well.

A funny story: I was practicing at City Lights one night, and Tim Tweedel comes in high AND drunk. Obviously he didn't know I had been practicing a lot lately, and offered me the wild 5 and the breaks, for something like 20 a game. He's quickly down about $200.00, and the place was closing, so he asked if I wanted to go double or nothing on the last game. Like a dumschitz, I let him, and he got out of the trap by winning that game. He played me much harder in all our tournament games after that.

Do you remember Loren? He was a guy that played in Tacoma, and I don't remember what the name of the disorder he had was, but he had no hair at all. No eyebrows, moustache, nothing. Kind of a callous sort, always gambling on the barboxes. Pretty good player.

A few other names I'll drop, and please if you could, let me know what is going on with them: Cocomo, Jay Siongko, Rennie Amadeo, Creigh Dumo, Ken Morano, the Ashton twins (little hotties!), and Debby Welfringer (my City Lights practice buddy!).

Does that tall thin guy with the white Porsche hatchback still play in WA? I remember he seemed to wear the same clothes to the tournament every Wednesday. Either that, or he had a closet full of jeans and white button down shirts.

Whew, lots of names. Some people I don't know their names, just their faces. Loren, don't know him. With that description, I think I would know him, lol. Don't know Jay either, but might recognize his face. Little Jay (white guy) hangs around City Lights, but I don't think that's who you are referring to.

Cocomo, I remember being in the finals for the first time in a weekend open tournament with him, some 15+ years ago and he broke safe and played me safe every shot. I hated it and of course, lost! He plays down in the Olympia area and I see him every once in awhile. There was a great tournament down there Mike would go to twice a week, but they banned every player not from their county so Mike couldn't win it. Big chickens!

Rennie and Creigh Dumo still go to CL. I see them every once in awhile. Creigh was on a 'Dream Team' for BCA in the Open division, with Raul, Eddie Mataya, Fast Eddie, and Tommy Sliva. They got in the money, but they sure didn't play very well. Tommy, their weakest player held them all up. :p

Ken Morano split up with his wife. They attended Pool School in CN (Allison, Gerda, Mike Massey, Paul Potier) a couple times. He really improved, shot solid. He moved away from this area, not sure where he went.

The Ashtons remain good friends. In fact, Joanne is coming to spend the weekend with me this Friday. We are both in contention to win the overall #1 spot on our regional tour. She overtook me since I missed the last stop due to the IPT, and it looks like I will miss the last one for the same reason. :( I hope she wins it if I don't though. She deserves to be on the pro tour.

Deby and I had a war going on for some time but have made up. She is into a MLM company but still works for the Port of Tacoma doing CAD. Her game has really improved as well. She learned how to draw her ball, lol.

I take it you mean Carl Baughman (pronounced Boffman). I don't notice what kind of cars people drive, but from your description, that would be him. Pressed skinny jeans and white shirt unbuttoned mid-abdomen. He is stuck in the 70's or 80's! Nice guy. Mike and I call him 'Carl the Truth'! :p
