A simple fix for the "Wanted/For Sale" section.....your thoughts?

The problem with all of our "solutions" to the For Sale Forum problems all have to do with what each of us thinks the problem is. Instead, he changes that will end up being made will serve to hopefully fix the problems as the owners of AZ see it. Jerry opened by saying he was going to stop people from listing new articles and that those people should buy a banner ad, and then followed up by (reportedly) saying the problem was that AZ was getting sued too much. That's pretty confusing to me as I don't see how one would effect the other, Jerry also said that he had read many of the suggestions and the powers that be were going to rethink their positions. I think its pretty clear that we as members members don't know what the owners perceive as the problems, and our fixes speak to only what we see the problems as. I think its too cluttered, so my solutions have to do with clutter. That's all well and good, except nobody ay AZ has said its their view that it is too cluttered. AZ says no more eBay links and I'm all "that won't reduce the clutter", but maybe its not the problem of clutter they thought they were addressing with the ban.

Myself, operating under the feeling that i was a member of a community, would have preferred if if the owners had come to the membership and told us what they thought the problems were, but apparently that's not their style.

Oh well.

Thanks

Kevin

Well put. I don't know what the real problem is either. Banner ads serve nothing more that to draw people to your website and products. If you are selling XYZ cue for $500 and I find the same exact XYZ cue on Ebay, Craigslist, AZ or BobsBargainBlowout.com for $300. hmmm, guess where I am going to buy it?! The Banner ads don't guarantee anything, just like buying top search on Google, listing on Amazon, paying the best SEO on the net or any other tool you use to promote your products. So AZ can surely say "No more production products" and I understand but that really isn't gonna to fix much.... other than giving the dealers who buy ad space a warm and fuzzy. Most people are still going to search the other sites for better deals. Competition is a good thing.

By the same token, I hope people do visit the sites in the Banner ads and give those places a fair shot at their business. Cheap price should NOT be your only decision factor.

The reason we don't know what the owners perceive their problems to be is they haven't told us. They haven't told us because, well, I would guess they view their problems to be none of our business. To me, that's a shame, but I'm way past thinking everyone in the world needs to think the way I do.

Lots of people have have lots of great suggestions as to how to fix the for sale forum, but each of us is addressing what we each think the problems are, which apparently doesn't really matter much.

Thanks

Kevin

Wvweryonw Has An Opinion....How Many Really Matter?

I've read several posts that make excellent points and many others have proposed salient changes but the bottomline is we aren't the system architects nor the system operators/owners. it's obvious that the Forum was gradually become just a flea market environment which would have only worsened with time. I'm glad to see the Forum implement better controls and policies. And admittedly, sometimes the baby is prone to being tossed out with the bath water and I hope this isn't the case at hand. I don't think it is and am giving the Forum time to evolve with these rules. If I don't like what's in store, or disgree with the Forum operators, then I won't renew my paid membership and simply will stop using the Forum.

Look, none of us are captive members of the Forum, paid or otherwise, and we can go our separate ways any time we darn well choose. But let's allow the Forum operators some latitude and if they make a lot of money from these changes, great for them. And at the same time, if they lose their butts, we don't have to bear any loss or risk whatsoever. All the rewards and risks are borne by the Forum's owners/operators. So let's try to support the changes and perhaps there'll be opportunity to influence the Forum operators with our suggestions and ideas on how to improve the "Wanted to Buy/Sell Section".

Cue whales don't want the apprx value of their assets known for a myriad of valid reasons.

i agree that asking price is necessary to an arbitrary #, however, once the price exceeds that threshold it needs to be on the downlow

I am with you on that. Say anything that exceeds $2k or something like that

No. I don't have that much money ;)

Me either (at last not to buy to keep). As curious as I am about what those things sell for, I also realize that most people that ACTUALLY buy those cues prefer that the price (and often the buyer) remain private information. Thus, sellers that are looking to attract that type of buyer, have to make their sales private.

And again, here we are fixing a problem that very well may not be anywhere on the AZ owners' radar.

Thanks

Kevin

It's not a flea market....yet. The real problem here is some have little respect for this forum and treat it like one. The changes, as originally proposed, would do little more than hasten that process. Hopefully, wisdom will prevail on this one. I've offered some suggestions privately but havn't gotten a reply back. I'm here if they'd like to bounce ideas for feedback. There's quite a bit at stake here....really there is. Let's hope in this case the 'few' don't ruin a good thing for the 'many'.

I am definitely for a strict limit on 'bumps'. Other than that, I will pretty much go along with what the majority wants.

Without a price listed I don't know if something is in my price range or not. I don't think I make a point to ask about cues I know I can't afford. I do get your point though.
