A "Sneaky" Idea

I have an idea for a sneaky type cue. Instead of making a cue that looks like a full spliced bar cue, how about one that looks like a cheap wal-e-world cue. I would call it my "sneaky cheap". An example of this is the Predator P2. At first glance it looks like one of the cheaper cues.
In other words, would a custom cue maker be willing to make a great playing cue out of fine maple and quality parts, and then stain or paint it to look cheaper?

I want one...

A couple of those weight-washers that you remove by unscrewing the butt would be a fine touch, and maybe a ferrule that looked like a slip-on.

i thought about something like that.....maybe getting one of those jack daniels cues or budweiser, and just screwing a predator shaft on it(get the 314 logo taken off or even better, wrap some electricians tape around it). Prob would play pretty good.

Bob Dzuricky did that very thing.....check out the pics at the bottom of the page.

Added a quality shaft, ferrule, and tip....changed the joint....etc., etc.

Looks like a cue you could pick up at Sports Authority...but plays like a DZ Custom.

i thought about that before but i'm not a cuemaker. if you could make it look like a budwiser cue or something that'd be extra sneaky

i swear i posted that last statement without checking out the dzwebsite. what does something like that cost?

:) :)

Must be the whole "great minds" thing....:)

I have no clue what something like that would cost. Bob's had that cue up on his site for quite awhile now....at least 1.5 years. I would imagine a couple hundred...plus the cost of the P.O.S. cue...would cover it.

According to him, the cue played pretty well. Need a good "blank" to work with...but if you find a decent and straight one, Bob could hook it up pretty easily, I would imagine.

I have seen several of these including a Jack Daniels, Nascar, Harley Davidson, Bud Light, and a black cue with painted roses. All of them had the pin replaced, and new shafts to the owners specifications. Pawn shops are a great place to find cheasy looking cheap cues, and if you have a decent cue-repair person nearby, it shouldn't cost much to have a shaft made and the pin replaced.

yeah, I have known players to do this exact thing. It is way better than a sneaky pete. They get a $15 bud cue and have a good maker replace the crappy ramin wood shaft with a new top quality one with a good tip, etc.
Walk in a pool room with that and ask for a game, it is like dumping blood in the water!!!

DZ didn't match the shaft ringwork with the butt's ringwork. I would spot that difference from a mile away, sloppy on his part, or just lazy. Good idea though.

Earl will prolly part with a few just like you are talking about and they come with a nice tape job. I asked what he was shooting with in Hickory a few weeks ago and he said it don't matter it is a piece of shieeet. Leonard

I think the original poster said "quality parts." ;)

And 'great playing'

Tho, to be honest, the ones where they used glue
do seem to be better.

look at that piece of crap

i had a customer bring me a walking cane with a pool cue shaft inside. these things were imports and had brass fittings that converted the cane into a pool cue. they were pure junk. he had me to build him a shaft. when people saw him walk into a pool hall, and start unscerwing his cane, players would fall over each other trying to get to the guy with that piece of crap walking stick pool cue. most of them did not like the results.
