A tough 8-ball situation

This came up last night during an APA 8-ball match.

I'm playing a VERY tough player.

I'm on the 8-ball and i'm left with the shot below.

What would you do here?

This is my solution. But I later on received a lot of criticism for that shot selection. The bank DOES NOT GO EASILY in the lower left hand pocket easily because of the obstructing three ball. The ball ended up hanging in the pocket off of my shot and I ended up winning the game anyway.

To me it looks like you attempted the correct shot. The fact that you hung it up in the corner means that it had a good chance of going in.

I think that against a good player you had to try to win from there. Even against a good player just by having the eight in a position for a win puts pressure on your opponent and will keep him from getting comfortable and that may be the cause of a mishap. I figure because you won that game something like that happened.

Why would someone question that decision?

I would bank it in the lower right corner,miss the 5 like you are going to bank it short and then lengthen it it out with outside english and speed,where I play either you make it or lose anyway.With good speed you could tie up the pocket if you miss

I can see this going in as well, but I view it as a much tougher shot from my perspective, plus you can't park the cueball on the end rail really because of all the speed required just to make the ball on the two railer. The other shot was guaranteed to at least put the 8-ball in play.

This is insane, as the bank requires such a thin hit on the 8-ball. Do you realize how hard you'd have to hit this? The cue ball would go about 8 rails if it doesn't fly off the table or scratch somewhere.

(Not to say that I have a better idea though :p)

He is talking about 2 rails and I am talking about 1 rail by the 2.Lengthening not shortening,look at his diagram where it hits the rail by the 2,I would bank it shorter than he diagrammed(closer to the 5)

I realize this, which is why I commented on yours and not his. :)

It's your opinion and it's not wrong by any means....I just don't think it's realistic.
