A very tough leave I got, any ideas?

I was practicing 9-ball the other day, and I left myself this. I thought for sure I would scratch, but the cue ball hung there, very deep in the pocket. Obviously, I'm trying to get a piece of the 4-ball, but I couldn't for the life of me do it. Short of a trick-shot-calibur masse, I see nothing. It was impossible to hit the long rail before the side pocket. I tried about half a dozen ways out, but I couldn't do it. Even a right-english masse into the rail just past the 7-ball didn't come close. I tried a few shots jumping the cue ball into the other side of the pocket the cue ball is buried in, but the closest I came was hitting the 9. Anyone see a way out?

By the way, it's a 7-foot barbox, with very nice rails(albiet a little jumpy) and fairly fast cloth.

I don't see a 4 ball or 7 bal. Just a 3 ball near the spot and the CB is corner hooked..



I'd one rail kick it. Hit it with left spin just befor the side pocket.

Or, you could try to two rail it. Two rail kicks are preferable since the target becomes bigger when you add another rail, in most cases... But this two railer would require carefully applied spin so I would stay with the single rail kick...


And, sometimes you just need to know when you have been beat! Looks like this is one of those times... Can't get out from anywhere it seems...

Other than a 6 rail flyer, or a full masse to maybe get a hit.... I only see trying to tie up the 8 and 6.

Since you're giving up ball in hand, I'd try to eliminate the 4-9 possibility. No left spin needed on this one either (it'll go long enough without it).

I agree with tying up the 8 ball with the 6 but put the 8 on the right side of the 6 to make it more difficult.
 
If it's life or death I tie up the 8-6. If it's for fun I kick.

Not sure what method you use PJ but if I kick from the jaw and hit just below the side pocket with running english, I scratch in the opposite jaw. I use this 1 rail track to judge a lot of other kicks. Other rails will vary but I do need a little running english unless I hit softly.

If I kick this I kick at it pretty hard to give myself to slop something in or rearrange the table and get lucky some other way. I don't kick soft hoping for shape on the 5, that's asking too much unless you're efren.
 
If you can hit the side rail beyind the 7, just go 1 rail with straight draw and pull the cue into the 4. It isnt as hard of a hit as you may think.
 
I think my best option would be to hop over part of the eight ball and hit the rail before the side pocket with some left spin to hit the four ball. This looks like it can be done with a fair amount of control.
