A way to convert pin size in shafts

Is there a company that makes a screw in insert into your shaft that you can glue to change the diameter.

Basically heres my thoughts, and hopes someone already does this. Maybe its dumb and wont work, but oh well.

So I have a radial pin shaft that i would like to be 5/16 x 18. I have huebler shafts that have a plastic/nylon inserts in the shaft.

Does someone make an insert that I could glue and screw into the shaft to convert it? Does this even sound plausible? Would the insert just have to be too small and wouldnt work. Any where to find something like this, please let me know. Thanks.

Just have a local cue repair/ maker drill it out and retap it. We have guys that do it all the time here in CT.
 
Universal Smart Shafts once tried to implement that idea. The shafts had interchangeable pin inserts. They stopped this sometime within the last year or two.

Can they go to a smaller pin size when doing that? Is it best to have them drill it out and put an insert in there? There is no cue shops where I leave, but am gonna be in minneapolis here real soon for a day. I could have docs do it there. Thanks for the info.

I have a Huebler sneaky pete i bought about 1989 , it has a stainless 5/16 pen and there is a plastic type material in the shaft. Are you talking about replacing the plastic insert with a metal one?


I need joint work on mine. The ferrule he used is not very good either. It was 100 dollars back then. They were out of Meucci's so i got it.Have never had a problem and liked it but the joint is off and i guess it is due to just not being used for years.

No, I love the nylon insert in the Huebler Cue. Man the day that cue shop was out of Meuccis so you had to by a Huebler should be thought of as one lucky day. You Huebler still hits amazing im sure, and you Meucci would look like a Hunters Bow (As far as I know quality issue is why they no longer really sell Meucci Sneakys). Meuccis and Hueblers play similar, I just IMO (and that doesnt mean much) Hueblers play better, are better crafted, and are better quality. Dont hate on me to hard, just an opinion.

Anywho what I am trying to do is change a radial pin shaft (3x10 tapped I think) to a 5/16 x 18, to fit a Huebler. Would like a nylon insert as well (because of what I have experienced with other Huebler shafts.)

my local guy drills out the shaft, fills it with phenolic and retaps it with whatever thread you want.

The Universal Smart Shaft solution only works for their aftermarket shafts. The plastic piece that the pin screws into is removable. As an example, you would remove the old plastic piece that fits the old pin and replace it with one that fits the new pin.
 
Get ahold of KJ Cues or ratcues here on AZ - or post this question in the Ask The Cuemaker area. You'll get fixed right up... as long as you're willing to notice that cues & the shafts for them don't include velcro. By that I mean - you can have what you want done, but it's not free, and if there's nobody in your area to do it, shipping costs may be involved.
 
i do believe the insert in the huebler shaft is teflon which creates a great hit and feel a very good joint.
 
Okay. First, take this to the cuemaker forum.

But, what has to be done is: 1) Drill out the threaded portion of the shaft. 2) Glue in a dowel to fill the hole. 3) Re-drill and bore the, now-cored, shaft for the desired thread insert. 4) Glue in the desired insert.

Not a really hard job. Maybe $100.00 or so, from a local cuemaker.

I haven't had problem with it , i think your right it is teflon , but aftermarket shafts for that pin size are few. Most have the black collar, not many wood to wood , at least as far as the low deflection shafts.

I don't care , i'd as soon have a traditional shaft , i hear Viking stock shafts are pretty good for production shafts.
