I'm constantly amazed at this game's ability to cause equal amounts of joy and frustration.

I don't play much in the summer, so I'm just starting to gear up for the fall season. Two nights ago, I really started to feel like I was getting the stroke back. I put up a few 30's and a couple 40's in about 3 hours of practice time. I went to bed that night feeling pretty good about my game.

Last night, I thought I'd try to expand on those good feelings and wound up going to bed ready to sale my cues. I struggled to get into the 2nd rack and only hit 20 once. Most of my runs ended in the first rack. As to the reasons, I'm guessing lack of focus from not enough sleep...who knows?

I do know that I'll be back at it tonight and every night until I get it figured out. My game is in there somewhere...I'll find it.

Hey Scott,

Welcome back, school is back in session !

You know how fickle this game is, the ups and downs which keeps us on our toes and coming back for more.

You are probably right with the lack of sleep theory. That is why I usually do not go practice on Tuesday evening. I suffer from
A killer work schedule between Monday and Tuesday, and don't get much sleep as a result.

Go get a good night sleep, and then get back to business !

Again welcome back !

Okay, I'll buy em. Take 50 bucks for the works?

since you have a 98 ball run under your belt, i fully understand your frustration. i have posted to this effect before about 14.1 being the only pool game that i know of where you can play like a pro one day and like a hack the next. if it's any consolation, even the best players can, at times, look like amateurs..... there was a guy in north dallas who was a natural. i saw him one day on the sidelines and inquired why. he said that his game was so bad he just had to quit playing. dick lane believes that you have to work though these down periods but many of we mere mortals have difficulty doing just that.

This describes every week for me lately!

I've always taken that approach too unless I start to recognize the signs of burnout. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, I just walk away for a week or so until I get the urge to play again.

My situation now is just rust from a summer of very little pool. I'm excited about playing again and I just need to keep working and it will come.

Well, it's been two weeks and until the last couple nights, I just couldn't find my game. My only run of any significance was a 47 that ended on a bad skid.

I did what a couple posters suggested and got back to drills/fundamentals. At first I was bored to death, but as I noticed improvement, it got easier to stick with it.

Gotta stick with it. I have a team 8 ball tourney in eight days. I've got to be ready. We're playing with four players the first night and it's single elim. No room for mistakes.

I think I'll post the 47 just to find out if you folks see something I don't. And I'm sure you will.
