I know this has been discussed quite a bit, but still having difficulties finding the right tip for me. Came back to the game after a very looooooong period out of it. So many tips, it can be confusing.
Started using Kamui brown medium, liked it, then tried Everest and liked it but to me it was glazing too quick. Just to try, used Kamui brown soft, best feel of them all, good on english at slow speeds, but it mushrooms too fast. Went back to Kamui brown medium, now I feel is too hard and actually chipped two of them on massè shots.
Crazy but as I said, I didn't have too many choices on the late 70s, just one good that I can recall and it was elephant skin, one layer.
Recommendations needed, I shoot mostly medium speed and use a lot of english on very slow and short shots, help is appreciated.

Ki-tech Medium.

Thank for the quick reply Keith! You are the second person who mentions Ki-Tech, would have to order a couple of those, Ozone Billiards is about 8 minutes from my house but they don't carry them, thanks again.

Triangle

Do you prefer Triangle tips over all tips laminated or not?
P.S. > Just asking, I can't afford the high end laminated tips.
Thanks

I have zero issues with playing with a cue with a solid maple shaft with a triangle tip installed on it.

I feel the same way about a half dozen tips.

I have triangle, kamui and ultra skin tips installed on my cues.

I repair cues so I have different tips installed on my cue so customers can get some what of a idea of what brand of tip they want.
Its also a great way to sale cues....
Its also a great way to learn how to play using different tips and it really isn't that hard to adjust to one tip from another.......

I have a few thousand dollars worth of tips in stock.
Off hand I cannot think of one of them that don't work ....
I said Triangle because its like the old faithful of tips, they are just a good all around long lasting tip that you can get allot of spin on the cue ball with.
They are also cheap.

Thanks Mike. I appreciate your response, and it'll save me a few dollars too. :-)

Zan grip is a great choice IMO. Nothing wrong with kamui black medium either

Just have your tip guy trim off the mushroom. 99.9% chance you'll do it once and never have to do it again to the same tip.

With all you've spent on tip changes the tip guy should do a trim for free :D

Personally, I like UltraSkin Pro Softs. You might get very minor tip mushrooming with them too (or any soft tip), but it's usually so little you can ignore it...or have it trimmed.

I also shoot mostly medium/slow speeds and use English continuously. When I switched from my 13mm generic tip to my 12mm Kamui Clear Black soft, I had to use less English at slower speeds for the same effect - like my first car with power steering.

Now I'm betting the missing mm had more to do with things than the Kamui tip, but I sure am happy with the combo!

I am not that we'll versed in tips other than I know I like softer tips. I am having an elk master soft I think installed currently. Anyone with experience or comments on these?

G2 or Moori

since you liked the feel of the soft
try g2 or moori soft

That's a scary subject, I have Moori tips in stock and I wonder if there are not knock offs or not.

There is a real problem with fake or knock off tips, and moori and G2 is at the top of the list.

So the real question is Who do I buy the original Moori tips with out talking the chance of getting a knock off ?

Elk masters

Good tip, they do mushroom allot, inexpensive , easy to get very common and well known tip.
Terrible tip if the installer uses dull cutting bit.......
Also seems to be a favorite tip with the snooker pro's
.

I like hard tips and as such I tend to like Kamui hard brown or the Wizard tips which I think are really excellent but they are medium.
I break with my play cue and currently have a Wizard medium on it and there is exactly zero evidence of any mushrooming.
The thing I also like about them is that they don't glaze over like the black Kamuis. I hate that about the black Kamuis. However have not noticed is nearly as much on the brown.
When it comes to Kamui I've used them all in both lines and prefer the hard brown.
Also heard good things about the G2's. You could try their hard tip. That's on my list for next month.
I have always liked hard tips even when I was using a break cue.
