About wood

It's plastic. I don't know if it's cored with wood or not, but black urethane is either plastic, or wood that's painted black.
 
McD is big on urethane.
Most all of their black deco rings are urethane.
A very deep purple actually.

In general, McD is very good with their use of plastics.
By that I mean that they don't overload the cue with plastic.
They use it sparingly and in the right places.
McD also uses a diversity of (many different) plastics.
Phenolics are plastics, urethane, PVC (implex), all plastics.
This is the first time I've knowingly seen urethane used as a
F/A sleeve though I may have seen it before and not recognized it as such.
The use of plastics is quite common in today's cues.

I got a question about some wood
plan to make a wood box case out of one curley maple or another

will be about 32 long
5.25 wide and 1.5 thick
Each piece finished

will it warp after milling
its going to get skimmed flat and squared and detailed all in one set up then flip and skim to final thickness
 
It may warp if it sits long before construction, but if it's thin enough, it can be forced straight again in the construction process. Once constructed, you should have minimal issues.
