Accu-fast cushion install help

Confused about cushions?

Measuring some pieces as we speak -
ProForms and Champ ProAm K66 - a hair under 1 5/32
Artemis Pool 66 - 1 3/16

If a cushion is 1 1/4 or more it's K55 and if greater than 1 1/8 but less than 1 1/4 it's K66
I'm sure you know this - others reading might not.

In reading your responses and Pats comments I am convinced that you guys know what your talking about.. Interesting to me is the fact that I also have an Olehausen it is the Drake model. I removed the cushions and found the measurement on the wood to be 1 3/16" yes from the 1" mark.

The original cushions are Championship Fleetwoods so I wrote to the company and asked them what are the comparable replacements for my cushions.

See my note to them with measurements and model and their response. Wow! This is what us amateurs are up against. Looks like the original cushions are K-55? I don't get it guys did Olehausen put the wrong cushiopns on this or does this guy at Championship not know what he's talking about?

Hello John, K-55 is Fleetwood, K-66 is Traditional and U-23 has never changed. The comparable is Tour Edition K-55

Cheers!

Championship,

Can you please tell me what profile the original Championship Fleetwood cushions are:
These are no longer available according to your website.
Were they special order for Olehausen? Which of the currently available Championship products would be a comparable replacement?

K-66 or K 55

The Fleetwoods measure 1 and 3/16 on the inside of the cushion where it is glued.

Top dimension is 1 3/16"

Bottom dimension is 1 1/8

My rail dimension is 1 3/16 facing and 1 1/2 " high

Thank You

UPDATE on the Olhausen Americana:

Sorry guys, I was out of town for the last week, so I didn't get to my table. Anyway the current status is that I removed the Championship cushions (they were in very bad condition) and installed the new Accufast. The install went well once I did the first 2. I finished all 6, then started putting on the Simonis 860 cloth on the cushions. I just finished 2 of them.( HELP!) Putting the cloth on the cushions really sucks big time. Pat I wish I would have had you do them! Stapling the cloth so it has no wrinkles around the ends is almost impossible. Anyone have any suggestions for a real amateur???

Olhausen does take K66. Since you dry fit the accufast, they match the subrail correctly and
you have a nose height of 1 7/16 I wouldn't be concerned with the old cushions.

Not saying you're guilty but a lot of people measure from the end of a stick ruler and often the measurement is slightly off
because the ruler is off. You'll get better accuracy if you start a measurement at the 1" line of the ruler.

Call Me.....

Pat, I tried what you suggested. It's not working for me. My 3rd cushion I could not even get the wrinkles out of the corners without folding over the cloth. I worked over 2 hours on that cushion and it still isn't right. I'm very frustrated.

Thanks again for your help Pat. You bailed me out again! haha

Hey Gary,
I know it is hard to visualize over the phone. We have two options. You can call me while you are trying to do the rail or send them to me. What color Simonis are you useing? I might have extra laying around.

Don't take this as rubbing it in, but it's actually very easy when you know the right way to do it. What you're experiencing is what a lot of mechanics went through when they first started in this business. Fun isn't it!!! I commend you for your effort though. Installing Simonis properly is something a lot of installers who have been in the business for YEARS can't do. Just imagine, Olhausens are actually some of the easier rails to cover in my opinion! ;)

Funny story from a store we do the work for: Co-owner and a car mechanic decide to try to recover an old set of Valley rails after seeing me do it. I get the call a couple days later to help them out. I get there and the car mechanic says "Hey, what's the trick to that? You make that look easy!"
Me: "Yeah, it's not bad"
Him: "Well what's the trick to it? There's got to be a better way to do it. I've spend 4 hours on these 2 rails and they still don't look like yours."
Me: "Yeah, it took me 10 years to get mine looking that good"

If you haven't learned the tricks of the trade, levelling slate and covering rails are to me the two hardest parts of the job. Good luck with yours. One of the most important techniques is to step away for a minute when you get frustrated. ;) If you do decide to get help, Pat can definitely do you right.

Check out Real King Cobras post on the front page on Installing rail cloth.

For sure I am not a mechanic but this post brings out some interesting points and tips. Hope it helps! I will be facing this same issue in another day or so.

John

It's called Tournament blue.

FoxyGary, we're going to be in Painted Post on Monday. Syracuse John tells me that's fairly close to you. Did you ever get those rails figured out? If there's anything we can do to help while we're in the area, let me know.

Josh,

I finished the rails a couple days ago. Once I read and "followed" poolfelt.com installation instructions on-line, it went smoothly. Thanks for your offer anyway. I appreciate it.

Finally DONE!

Guys,

I finally completed my table this morning. Just finished my first practice game. The table plays great. Cutting the Simonis for the pockets didn't turn out perfect, but after it was all together, no one can see it! I have a lot of respect now for you installers!

Thanks for your help,
Gary
