Accu-Stats down the tubes

Ever since Grady left and this new guy took over Accu-Stats has gone down the tubes. A-S used to be the greatest thing since sliced bread with commentary from top pros in the booth, now it's like the WPBA with Mitch Lawrence. I have a couple hundred A-S videos and had every intention of getting a couple hundred more but Pat can keep this garbage. What a fantastic learning tool we lost so they could make pool a little more palateable to people who don't even like the game.

Well please help me out on this: Who took over and why did Grady leave? To me (located in Germany) A-S is the source to get to view pro level pool. There is nothing more educating than the comments of Incardona and Matthews and B. Hall. I own quite a few tapes an treat them like a hidden treasure because I have no chance in getting ESPN TV coverage here.

Thanks in advance
Markus

I'm a little confused - who specifically are you talking about??? Pat Fleming has always used a lot of different commentators. I'm not aware that Grady had ever been the "main man." He appears on some tapes, but Bill Incardona has announced more tapes than Grady. Is it Bill you don't like? The beauty of AccuStats is you can always turn off the sound (though I never would) and you still have commercial free, unedited, expert pool to watch, from the best seat in the house. You can't beat that. I do NOT think Pat is pandering to non-pool players; his is very much a niche enterprise focused entirely on pool fans (what people "who don't even like the game" would even buy or watch one of his videos?).

the PPV people. A-S used to be geared to people like us...now it's geared to the masses who don't even watch pool ( like ESPN does ). Grady left last year when Pat used Jimmy Wych instead of him for the PPV match. Pat didn't want someone with loads of pool knowledge (like Grady)...he wanted some BUBBLIE t.v. personality type. This man adds no insight to what's going on in the game like how to kick 3 rails and hit the ball or what is the highest % route to take, he just tells you how hard that shot was. Pat kicked Grady to the curb after 15 + years of EXCELLENT COMMENTERY for this BOZO Mitch Lawrence want to be. I really am heart broken over what Pat has done to the greatest product in pool since the leather tip.

I was sad Grady left but he has only his self to blame. He has been throwing a lot of tantrums lately and maybe deservedly so but you cant conduct yourself that way in business. Things dont go your way sometimes and decisions are made on who knows what reason. You dont go challenging people to a fight.

As for the present product you are way off base. I dont like Jim Wych myself but have you listened to Danny Diliberto? He more than fills Grady's shoes. His commentary is excellent. I am getting the whole Derby set and look forward to it. I just hope in time Grady and Pat can patch things up.

Danny D is good an so are a lot of the others they use but Jimmy wych is terrible at best. Pat is trying to go the way of ESPN & WPBA and that saddens me because I think A-S (WAS) way better than either of those. And Gradys knowledge of the game is second to nobodys. I think Grady in the A-S booth with a telestrator is the best learning tool in pool history. A-S is still a great product but has taken a major step backwords as a learning tool.

Jimmy Wyche does suck, but he was shoved down Accu-stats throat by the Pay-per-view people, I guess to give it an international flavor. That was only for the open and for that matter only the open tv matches. If you get the tapes from the non-tv matches or DCC it is the same old crew with the exception of no Grady. I think Bill Incardona, who is on most of them, does an outstanding job, even if he is kind of stubborn at times he is usually right on the money.
You should be sending an email to accu-stats and get Pat Fleming's reaction to your complains.

The only accustats tape I have is the 2001 US Open finals between Corey and Mika. I can't really say anything about the new ones because I haven't seen them. The one thing that bothered me with Grady's commentary was that he plugged some of his own stuff during the match. Saying he has some new books out or a new tape. That irritated me, but beyond that it was worth the money.

.

So your point is due to a single tape where Wych was used instead of Grady Matthews the whole of Accustats is going down the tubes? Sorry, I just don't see it. Virtually every tape coming out still has top quality commentary lead by Incardona (who was once the best 9-ball player out there briefly and just lost his heart from what I heard) and usually another top quality pro beside him. So we got one tape with Wych, you cried us a river, now get over it. We lost Grady, well while he has loads of knowledge the guy is always came off as dry, it is Incardona that makes the commentary great for me, and I like having him as the staple and the other commentators being a broad range of other people.

Wych is also no Mitch Lawrence, Wych would likely wipe the floor with 98% of this board in 9-ball, and if it were snooker you can chalk that up to maybe 99.8%. The guy does know a thing or two about the game.

Hall of Fame

Every time I hear these critcisms of Pat Fleming I shake my head. Dont you realize what the man has done for all of us fans. In the 50's to the 80's there was no way to catch top matches. You had to beg, borrow, or pay to learn secrets from top players. Now Pat has it all on tape. Where else can you watch a Efren, Shannon, Cliff Joyner, etc play pools most creative difficult game of one pocket. So sometimes his hands are tied because of business obligations or time constraints or budgetary responsibilities-Whatever! Hey the guy makes some mistakes too. Some critic who probably does not know a thing about film production says Pat is selling us down the river. Cmon grow up. This man should be in the Hall of Fame.

Now as a post script I also believe Grady should be in the Hall of Fame. He is equal to any other for his contribution to pool/. I only hope that Pat and Grady will be able to work things out.

Single tape? This guy has hosted the US Open for the last two years and offers absolutley nothing in the way of insight as to what's going on in the game. I agree with you about Incardona and I have also told Pat he should be in the hall of fame for his A-S videos ( because of its educational value ) my point is that the educational aspect of the videos has dropped considerably since they went to the tv personality instead of someone who knows the game.
