OK truthfully I have been seriously thinking about "calling in sick" and missing the one pocket invitational but with the player selections even someone who doesn't like one pocket would be nuts to skip it...

Shannon, Corey, Shane, Alex, Efren and Frost... Every match is going to be finals quality.....

The way I see it shaking out would be

Corey 1-4
Frost 2-3
Shannon 2-3
Shane 2-3
Alex 4-1
Efren 4-1

Alex beats Efren in the tie breaker to be the defending 8ball and one-pocket peoples champion!!!

Anyone else with opinions? =) If not you have 3 weeks to get one... Action starts April 11th!!!!!!

Efren has the highest gear at one pocket but has to overcome travel and jet lag. I'm not familiar with Corey's one pocket game but they are all dangerous.

betting line

Let's get a betting line going. Though Efren is the sentimental favorite I think he and Alex are 6 to 5 and pick em. Shane, Shannon and Scott are 7 to 5. Corey is the dark horse at 2 to one. Any interest?

I think to if you were going to have a tournament with the best in the world at 1Pocket, how did Cliffs name not get put in there. No disrespect to Alex or Shannon, but my money would be on Cliff against either of those.---Smitty

lol.......... You would bet on Cliff against Alex? lmao

Just like with the 8-ball event, the 10-ft table throws a wrench into any rational predictions based on one-pocket history.

The 10-ft table alone is making pick Alex to win the whole thing, since he is the straightest shooter of the bunch. I can't even venture a guess how the others will line up after Alex. I wouldn't be surprised if Efren loses every game, just like he did the 8-ball event.

Now, if this event is in done in a 9-ft table, then things would be MUCH different (same goes for the 8-ball event). Again (I've brought this up in the past), W-H-Y are these taking place on a 10-ft table? All this shows is what player plays best one-pocket (or in the previous contest 8-ball) on a 10-ft table, a table on which hardly any of them practices.

Pat says that the players voted to use the 10' on the first one after Diamond suggested it(for advertising of course). Biggest problem with 10' tables catching on is the FACT that pool tables in general take up A LOT of real estate and to try and push a table that will take up even more of that valuable space in a business just isn't going to work IMO. Sure some players may prefer it but for a poolroom owner or a bar owner they just aren't a good choice. You will have less tables in the same space and generate even less than you already do each day in pool time. I agree though, I wish the 10' FAD would go away because it's never going to stick for a thousand reasons.

I think Alex would be the favorite on the 10 ft. table.

After that it would be Shane then Cory. Pick em after that.
I'm sorry to say Efren would be last

I don't have an opinion on who will win it...

...but I'm 100% certain that Corey will be the most exciting player to watch.

He comes up with some wildly imaginative shots. It's magic when he makes them, but disaster when he misses. As he said in an interview (paraphrased) "That's just the way I play." In the same interview he also said there should be a rule against intentional fouls; he doesn't think they should be allowed in one-pocket.

I'm pulling for an Efren-Alex finals.

cliff

Cliff isn't playing his top game any more and Alex is at his peak as far as one pocket. I really respect Cliff's game but these gus are offensive monsters.
Minnesota Fats, "This kid Mosconi can't play one pocket. He only knows one move...eight and out."

I think Efren might be the dark horse in this after his performance in the 8 ball on the 10 footer, he did not win a match! I think it will finish with Alex in first, Shane in second, Scott in third, Shannon in 4th and either Corey or Efren in 5th 6th position.

I was at the entire 8 ball event, and it was fantastic. I enjoyed every minute of it. I do not know a thing about one pocket, but I will probably watch some of it if I can get one of the local one pocket guys to sit with me and explain what is going on. The Sandcastle has one table in the front that is dedicated to one pocket.
It is going to be an amazing few day in this area. The SBE. The one pocket invite, and there is going to be a challenge match between JA and Jason Shaw, 10 ball . I am so glad I live 20 minutes from all of this and have the time to spare.
I think the Sandcastle will be open 24 hours a day for the entire expo. Should be plenty of action. I think I will need a week to recover of all of this.

I'm very interested in the JA v Shaw match, when is that? At Sandcastle too?

This Shaw v Archer, when is that supposed to go down?

Shane

How many one pocket titles does Shane have to win before we get it.

Shane over Alex in a close contest.

Just a reminder... When Efren played in the 8ball invitational the Philippines was pretty much completely underwater....

How well would you expect someone to concentrate and play when they are half way around the world and everything they know and love is in danger of being washed away into oblivion?

Chris
