I just received an email from Accu-Stats about a new "upgrade program" where they'll upgrade your Accu-Stats VHS to DVD for only $6.00. This is a pretty amazing offer by Accu-Stats IMHO!

copy of the email:

An Accu-Stats Informational:

On the topic of the Accu-Stats $6.00 Upgrade Program:

It has been brought to our attention that many of our customers are unaware of the DVD Upgrade Program that Pat has initiated.

Many of you have supported Accu-Stats over the years through purchases of our videos on VHS tape format.

Now, many of those matches are available on DVD.

While customers have expressed interest in "upgrading" those VHS matches to DVD - they have also expressed that the cost of spending $19.95 or even $9.95 to do so is just too expensive.

Enter the Upgrade Program.

Pat has designed a fair program for the customers.

We have records of all of your purchases, whether they are on VHS or DVD. Take some time, check out your VHS tapes in the Accu-Stats On-Line Store:

http://www.1vshop.com/Accu-Stats/store.cgi

If you see the item number now includes a "D" at the end (S21-11 vs. S21-11D ) or says (DVD) - let us know and we will "Upgrade" your VHS to DVD for the low cost of $6.00 plus shipping.

What's the BEST part? You DO NOT have to return the VHS tape to Accu-Stats. It doesn't even have to be in working order, or even still exist. We will have a record if you EVER purchased the VHS from us - and that's all we need to know.

Thanks again for all your support.

Accu-Stats

They have other specials going on now as well. Support them guys, they've been at the lead of the recording of pool matches from the beginning. They need our support to continue to archive some of the greatest pool matches of our time!

That's a nice deal and I'm glad they're doing it. Do we know if they have converted ALL of their old stuff to DVD's? Maybe this is a way of getting some direction on what un-converted tapes they ought to focus on?

They should try to figure out a nice subscription streaming model like Netflix. Charge $20-$30 a month to stream matches over their web site. Or do a PPV for them, $5 for 24hr of viewing a match.

Accustats has a "video of the month club".

And Accustats has a theater on their website for PPV's on demand.

http://www.accu-stats.com/theatre.html

http://www.accu-stats.com/ppv9-ball.html

Price: $5.95 - Content is viewable for
24 hours after the time of purchase.

Some are 4.95 and some are 6.95, but there is all different discaplines to choose from.

You should browse the site and see what is there. Soooooo much.

Thank you for asking. I hope this answered your questions. Zilla:cool:

I did not know they had the PPV on there already, although the one viewing or 2 viewing is fairly restrictive. Would be more user friendly if you can just play it for 24 hours unlimited times so you can stop and start it as time allows. Will it time out after a while if I pause it for 6 hours while doing something else and play it again?

The video of the month is not quite like streaming matches, they can make the PPV items available all the time, any time, for a monthly fee. Or pay in advance for say a $200 yearly subscription. That would be like watching 3-4 matches a month, which is probably more than what most people do anyway on average, but it offers the freedom of watching as many as you like at any time.

Accu-Stats Upgrades & PPV

Great Questions!

Thanks to Oldzilla for doing an admirable job on answering. He is correct to say that emailing me at jim@accu-stats.com is the best way to get detailed answers. You can also call us at 800-828-0397.

As regards the VHS to DVD conversions:

Of the 1500 or so titles we have around 50% are already on DVD. The NEW tournaments (starting in 2003) are only on DVD. Pat has converted many of the matches prior to 2003 already but the ONLY true updates are found in the On-Line Store.

As Pat converts each one they are listed on the opening page of the store under "Latest Additions".

Now that the post-production on the 33 DVD's from Derby City is completed the next job Pat will be tackling is to go back and start converting more of the older, more popular VHS matches. A daunting task.

Got a favorite? Let us know and Pat will add it to his list.

As regards the PPV:

Again, GREAT questions.

As of now I have 120 Accu-Stats videos on PPV as Zilla pointed out. Some are individual matches, some are "themed groups" in the "Theatre" section.
(Great deal by the way in the Theatre - put together a theme from the existing 120 PPV's - could be 2-3-4-5 matches and submit your theme. If we use it then the submitter gets a FREE 2 week viewing.)

The pricing is statistically designed to be "fair" and is based on the length of the match, server storage space fees, and bandwidth charges.

Generally matches under an hour - $4.95, over an hour, under 2 hours $5.95, and over two hours $6.95.

I agree about the one/two viewing being too restrictive which is why all the newer additions are based on a 24 period instead. The Theatre matches are usually discounted and are available for a two week period.

I understand about making the PPV's a 24 hour "viewing" period rather than the way it is now - Viewable for 24 hours after your time of purchase. The one/two viewings were set up that way. The result - fragments of time get left on the servers FOREVER which unfortunately costs money.

Anyway, another longwinded post. Hope it helps to clear up a few things. If not, let me know (you can even ask the questions at the Game Show),

Thanks for all your support.

Jim
