I was wondering if anyone knows if Accustats is doing matches in Reno this year. I hope so because that Match of Frost/Duele (sp?) would be a great one. Vidas/Schmidt would be one I would buy for sure as well if they taped it. Hopefully they are there and catch some of these matches.

They've been there every time I have gone. I'd be surprised if they aren't there this time. Frost and Duel would be a good match to see.

I like accu-stats and i think they are good for the sport, but they need to come down some on the price of the videos!!!!

I would love to see the videos cost less but they have a very small market and I imagine they have to sell quite afew of each video before they even out the production costs nevermind start making a profit.

What they do for the sport is amazing and I support them for that alone. Never will people sit and wonder how good Reyes was or how good strickalnd was or how good Sigel was, the video footage of them will exist forever for future generations to see how good these players were and what the scene was like. I wish Accustats had been around when Mosconi, Lassiter, Greenleaf, Crane, and other great players of the past played. The great players before accustats are lost forever to us younger people, we can never see just how smooth Greenleaf stroked the ball, or see how fast Lassiter would run a rack, or see Mosconi run in the hundreds in yet another world championship in his prime. Thank god someone is out there doing high quality pool match videos now and putting together a media of our sport.

Accu-Stats hasn't been in Reno in quite a few years. It's difficult for them to trek all the way from New Jersey to Reno with all their equipment. But I'd like to see them go back there. Some of the best Accu-Stats videos that I have come from Reno.

Yes accu-stats has helped the sport a great deal. i just think $30 is alot of money for one tape! You can get a movie that cost millions of dollars to make for less than they charge. I"ve talked to people at tournaments on boards and alot of them said they would love to start a collection of matches they just dont have the money to get the tapes, they cost alot of money!!!

I asked about Accu-Stats the other day. Pat hauls his equipment to events by truck and I guess he wrecked one winter either on his way to or from Reno. Ever since then, she hasn't come to Reno in the winter.

The tapes are so high because it is of the highest quality. If you want cheap there are a lot of guys running around with their own video cameras shooting matches check it out on ebay. But as for me Pat Fleming and accustats is the best not only for entertainment and production value but instructional value as well. And if you really are a pool fan you can keep replaying these tapes and see new things. I mean come on this aint McDonalds. Keep it up Pat.

Dont get me wrong on this, the tapes are the best on the market no doubt. My problem is your talking $30 for one video and that does not even include shipping!!! Like i said before you can buy movie that cost millions to make for under $20. I would think you would make the tapes a better value to get your product out and expand the sport, its hard enough alone to pool to break out and get into the public. I guess its like all the other pool big wigs they wont all the money!!!!! Greed Greed Greed!

A lot of the Accu Stats tapes are between $22-$26. As for the analogy of, I can buy a tape of a movie that cost millions to make for $20 is a little unreasonable.

Movies that go to video, typically make their money back PLUS at the movie theater. The video market for them is typically icing on the cake.

Accu-Stats does not have luxury of making their money back at the theaters. I think pay a couple of bucks more to obtain such great material is a small price to pay, if you are truly a fan of watching pool.

For years, I have belong to their Tape of the Month Club, which gives you a discount on every tape you purchase. IMO, Accu-Stats is a great deal and even paying $30 a tape would be well worth it.

Yes, thats your opinion and i have no problem with that. I have mine also. What im trying to say is why not make the price lower to get more people to buy them at the same time get more people into the sport!! I wonder if the players get any of that money that acc-stats makes??? after all they are the ones who are doing the playing!! I guess the point im trying to make here is if you lower the price more people would be able to get them, at the same time getting more people involved in the sport at the same time. Like said right or wrong its my opinion.

KC: I don't think accu-stats is going to help bring new players to the sport. It is pretty much only for the hard-core fans IMHO.

Umm, look at the market for the hollywood movie and look at the market for the Accustat video. There are millions of people who want to own X-men 2 for $20 per a tape. There are hundreds of people who want to own a certain Accustat tape for $20 per a tape. So ya got the hollywood movie selling say 5 million copies of a movie for a nice gross of $100,000,000 and you have Accustats selling 500 copies of their video for a whopping $10,000 gross. If you have a small market you cannot make a profit selling things at a low price KC. This is simple economics man, try to use your head for more then a hatrack instead of getting all judgemental about something you obviously don't have a clue about. You do have your own opinion, and it is based on pure ignorance.

I do know that the players get a royality for each of their tapes sold. Also, the commentators are compensated along with all the behind the scene staff of the production.

KC, all I can say is we can agree to disagree on your opinion. And enjoy all your inexpensive multi-million productions from Hollywood, while I enjoy my Accu-Stats library.

OK KC you have your opinion but you have lost all credibility with it for me. Obviously you have no idea of what it takes to make a film event. Besides money for production it takes an enormous effort to coordinate staff for this and for it we should be thankful to Pat and his staff. He is doing us a favor. Now that we have it can you imagine a pool world without Accu Stats! Your accusations of Greed is an opinion of ignorance of what makes this world work. Tell me do you shop at Wal=Mart or Target? Or eat at Dennys or McDonalds? I some times do if I have to and I know what I am getting. But if you want quality you have to pay! Also have you ever tried to call someone in Hollywood and talk about their product. The quality of their films etc. You can always get on the line to a friendly pool playing advocate at Accustats and they would take the time talking to you. Wether its Pat or Pete or Pats son. I have made intelligent friends there who are always willing to help you.

KC,

I don't mean to pile on but don't you think your view on this is one of pool's biggest problems? Many participants in pool are too worried that someone is going to make a buck. You seem to be concerned that the cost of a video, $30, is too much money to spend. Look at golf, the green fees alone are more than the cost of pool time. And the equipment costs for golf are so much more too. I can walk into most pool halls and use a house cue to play and it won't cost me a dime to use it.

Someone puts on a tournament for pool and adds money in the pot and there will be players out there that will complain that they didn't put in enough money. I don't think $30 for a video with commentators is a lot of money to spend. After all, you have the option not to buy.
