Bamboo will probably be quite reflective. You need something that will absorb the sound.

Do some research if you go this route. There are 100s of different tiles and 90% of them won't be found at Home Depot. Go to a contractor supply house that handles one of the big company's full lines and talk with them about what you are trying to accomplish. It's definately not my idea of a wall covering but they again neither would heavy drapes. The tiles I used in my basement ceiling are specifically for sound reduction...thicker and a specific density.
For walls, go on home theater sites, those guys know about sound absorbing. You won't like the prices of a lot of it but I think you'll get some better ideas for DIY solutions than we are tossing at you here.
Sounds like you are trying to quiet the room down for players and not contain the sound so it doesn't bother others?
Either way, in general you want soft materials...rugs, (real) acoustic ceiling materials, upholstered furniture, oil on velvet Elvis portraits, etc.

Round bamboo, not flat, But, if it does become too noisy, I could easily put some flat sheets behind them and pic out a color I like and go that way. Someone mentioned white noise/all I want is ball contact noise, without any type of echo.
Funny how people experience the same thing in such different ways.

as i said above, this used to be my day job. i'm a sound engineer, pool table owner, and have done what you're trying to do in multiple rooms.
round bamboo isn't going to do squat for the noise you want to reduce. putting flat sheets behind it isn't going to do much more (although it will do more than the bamboo, unless you put it touching the wall, which will reduce how much it deadens the sound; it would be more effective over top of the bamboo).
again, the right answer is Owens Corning 703. you don't even need to cover the whole surface with that, it sucks in sound like it's disappearing into a black hole. for just killing impact echoes, the 1" thick will work fine (it also comes in 2" and 4").

703 is cheap, but if even that's too much money, heavy drapes or mover's blankets will kill the reflections off the wall. you'll need to cover a lot more surface with those.
