How about some figures on the calcuttas??

In your earlier post you said Ricky GAVE Marshall 8-7......is this correct?

TIA

Yes,that was my understnding. It is very difficult to get info.

I could not stay at the site because I am old and feeble and falling asleep and hence came back to my hotel.By the time the tournament ends it may be 2-2:30 AM.When I left 15 minutes ago Scotty townsend and Jeremy Jones were duking out.The looser gets 5 and 6 place.Jesse Bowmen was the winner of one winners bracket.
In the action matches : Brian Jones of Tulsa has given 10-7 to Biloxi Mike( was placed 3rd in Grady`s tournament in Grand Casino,Gulfport last OCT)Brian was 1 or 2 games a head.

Final report:
This morning I went back to the site.I was told that the final match was completed at 3AM.
The tournament was won by Jeremy Jones.Second place went to Jesse Bowman.
Prize money, excluding calcutta, that was written on the Bulleten Board was as follows:
First: 4600
Second :2500
Third : 1500
First Calcutta: 1st : 5000, 2nd:3000 , 3rd: 1500
Second Calcutta: 1st 3300, 2nd:1650 , 3rd 575
I do not know how much of calcutta money went to the players.

At this time lil John and mark.H( Denver,Co) are still in the pit playing one pocket.
Scotty Townsend beat Jeff Abernathy 6 games ahead playing 9 Ball for decent sum.
Last night after three hours of play Brian Jones was only 2 games over Biloxi Mike( Mike Gerber) and they stoped.Brian gave 10-7 to mike.
Yesterday Sarah beat that tall ,skinnyguy from Dixie land playing 8 games a head 9 Ball for decent sum.
There were so many actions. It was very difficult, some times, even to get the names of the players let alone the other details.
This coming weekend there will be tournament at JIMBOB`s in Gulfport,MS.JimBob`s is known for good food.Bring your big appetite.Ciao

Well, I just woke up from my trip to Mobile after about 3 hours sleep in 3 days. It was a great tournament. Vagabond, I wish I could have gotten to talk to you while I was there.

I'll add what little bit I know from what I have read. Sarah was playing Tater from Alabama. He is a good action guy and plays well. He had his stakehorse with him and I saw Tater in several matches throughout the tournament. Sarah was playing great and a pleasure to talk with as always.

Vagabond is right about the Sicilian, Mike, from Vegas. He STAYED in action. One-pocket or nine ball, it didn't matter.

Tony Watson looked good and was playing great. Shannon looked as though he may be getting his recent bad luck behind him as well.

I finally got to meet Marissa.

I got to see alot of old friends from the Carolinas that I hadn't seen much since I moved to Chattanooga. Tony, Shannon, and Larry Nevel all live in the Greenville, SC area now. Also Jeff Abernathy, Brian C and others from NC were there gambling. Jimmy Reeves did the cue repair and did a great job and stayed pretty busy for the entire tournament. He has Larry Nevel as a partner now. They also make a great playing cue if anyone needs a new weapon.

I met Biloxi Mike a couple of years ago in Biloxi at Vue Biloxi Billiards while visiting there. I just want to say that he is a class guy and a great one-hole player. I think his game has been clocked a little low for a while, but since his nice finish at Grady's tournament last year, and his recent action results, he is getting the respect he deserves at the game.

Also, Scooter was in his usual form. I was impressed. Not with his pool game. Those were some hot chicks he was trying to put the make on Saturday night :D .

It was certainly a class field. I don't have to re-hash the champions that were there.

My final thoughts:

The altercation between Grady and Neil was too bad. I don't know who watched the hit on the object ball that caused the first verbal altercation, but I had a hit called bad that was obviously good in a tight match (7-6 at the time and a 2-9 combo) that turned the tide in favor of my opponent. I was told by all knowledgeable players around the table that the hit called was tragic, and it was hard for me to keep my composure. The TD does a great job running the tournament, but does not have the pool skills (IMO) to call close hits correctly all of the time.

Great action as always. I have just taken up one-pocket and I got to watch and learn alot about the game by observing the matches there.

They need to bring in more bar tables for the tournament. They did bring 2 more in this year. But they could get rid of a couple of the 8 footers that no-one uses for gambling and get 3 or 4 more for the weekend. At .75 per game non stop for 3 days, I thing someone would put a few in there for them. None of us are as young as we used to be. There was an improvement from last year, though. They ran 24 hours non-stop last year. This year, I finished my last match from Saturday at 7:15am Sunday morning, and the matches didn't start back up till around noon  . So that is a 4 or 5 hour break.

I am more impressed with Sarah Rousey every time I meet and get to talk to her. She IS a class act, even though she does have a lead foot :D .

I'm sure I have forgotten something or someone, but my mind has not fully recovered. I'll post more if I remember anything else of importance.

Driving back yesterday, I said my body could not take the abuse, and I wouldn't go to the Mobile tournament again. I said the same thing last year. I'm sure I will see everyone again next year.

Just wanted to say, "Thanks", Vagabond for all the reports. For us who were unable to make the trip it was much appreciated.

Vagabond - Think the action will stay around for awhile?

There are some action players thinking of going down to Mobile for action today.
Do you think the action will be around for awhile?
Might they be hanging around for the tourney coming at JimBob's?

Theres always action around there. I have never been to Mobile (since Ricky and Bear opened) and not seen action. Theres always a road player or three hanging around.
If you get that way Tom ask Ricky or Bear to get you a Gin game. Theres
a few guys that play.

Thanks for the reports Vagabond!!!!!

How did Mark Haddad and L'il John make out playing one pocket (i assume)? Also, what was the spot?

Regards,

Doug

Vagabond,

You're the man! Thanks for the info.

What the heck happened with Grady  ? I just can't picture him rolling on the floor in a fight.

Sorry,I do not have info.It was one pocket. Before I left Mobile I went to the site at 7 AM and I saw them in action. That is all I know.During that short period I saw lil John running 6 or 7 balls in one game because of a simple mistake made by Mark H

Thank u Koop.

Great turn out for this tournament and got to see some great players. Wish it would have been played on the 9-footers instead of the bar tables, though. Also not a lot of action with everyone woofin or knockin each other.

It was nice to finally meet you, Vagabond, though you didn't recognise me at first (LOL), Mike Templeton (albeit briefly), Sarah Rousey, Grady Matthews, along with a few others who are lurking around AZ. Nice to see all my buddies again: Jesse, Justin, George, Denny, Schmitty, Guido, Matt, David, and all my Ohio/Kentucky boys. Got some really weird (read: perverted) questions from the Mississippi group (except Wesley who was the gentleman), but they eased up when Jesse let them know I was his kid sister ;). Thanks, Little John, for kicking that off. :p

Hugs and kisses to Jesse and Justin!

Damn...and I was wanting to film it for prosperity!

And by the way...tell Jesse next time you see him that Shorty says hello, and that was a yummy quasadilla. I remember when he was a young pup running around on his daddy's shirt tail. Don't let them Mississippi boys scare ya Marissa...we ain't all like that ;)
