Action in St. Louis

a few things

I agree with you guys on a few things . But they do the same matching up bs everywhere. And yes it is outside st. Louis but close enough. Believe me I wish we had a real.pool hall in wc bad. And I am trying but going to take a while.

Or Gordon Guy , Tom Ferry , Jimmy Parr , Fat Bill, Jimmy Wichman, Rusty, Whitey, . It's just different names now, same games being played.[/QUOTE

Tom Ferry would not bet fat meats greasy, I grew up running with Gordon , I have never seen Tom do anything, except steal. That is gospel. He may have been a good hustler, I have never seen him gamble once.

I didn't know Tom Ferry at the time. I was playing Sarah Rousey for an autographed five dollar bill at the AZB Room at Derby City Classic a while back and I have never been one to gamble with women but I wanted to win that signed $5 bill from Sarah. As we were playing the short race, I was little nervous, playing a girl and in front of all the AZB crowd. I know it wasn't for much of anything but for me the pride was a bit of much of something. Just as I was preparing to shoot a loud voice barked out, "You want to bet something on the side!" I didn't quite know who it was that said it but knew from the direction the voice came from that it was probably one of three guys standing a good distance away from the table. I kind of zeroed in on who I thought had said it and figured out it was the big guy by the look on his face and I barked back at him, "No, but when we finish this match I'll play you some $50 one pocket." The big fellow didn't say anything more and Sarah and I finished our AZB grudge match. She signed the five dollar bill, "You kicked my ass! Sarah Rousey"

It was a couple of days later that I was informed that the big fellow was none other than Old Has Been from AZB. I didn't know Tom was sick at the time but apparently he wasn't doing well but was in good enough shape to make a side bet against someone playing for "funzies". It seemed like it wasn't long after that, that Tom passed. That's my only story of Tom. It's not a terrible one but it compliments what you said about him not betting that fat meat's greasy. He may have been a solid gambler, I just didn't know that about him.

Old Has Been, on AZB, did once tell one of the funniest stories ever about how to extend your endurance at a pool tournament and had a couple of us on hook, line an sinker with the story.

He was a cool dude with great stories. I miss him on the forums. Plus he used to hang out at Terry's place and loved to be around action. I wish I had some of our old pms from 7 or 8 years ago.

Tom was a one of a kind -- all hustle.

Quick story: there was a 1pocket tournament at the now defunct Chesterfield Billiards in St. Louis. There was a small field, but several strong players and the discussion was -- do we pay deep or winner take all. I've always been an advocate of paying more guys, said so, and that's what was decided.

Anywhos, I win the tournament and I get the winners envelope, and Tom is sitting next to me at the bar when Jerry gives me the dough for first place and Tom just turns to me and dead pans, "Way to go, Einstein."

"that other player" in St. Louis by the name of Louie Roberts.

I used to play all those guys in the "OK Corral", Cue and Cushion, and The Grand and Gravois PR, (SportCenter?) - and even the "Forstell Truck Stop"....

I'll always remember playing "that other player" in St. Louis by the name of Louie Roberts.

We must have played on 15 different tables through the years,

That's right, we did..... they can talk all they want about players with gamble, you're up their REALLY high on the list G.L. The level of "heart" in those days was so much higher (than these days), when you beat someone you HAD to make them quit - usually by "bu$ting" them out of all their Ca$h!!!

We must have played on 15 different tables through the years, including the one in your basement......man, there was a lot of action in St. Louis in those days....also Farmington, Hillsboro, Poplar Bluff, and most of the little towns in S. Mo.

I took to playing sets myself so i got off the rail but here are the next 2 games game 4 jb broke jj owed one to start when i started playing my sets i think there were 12 or 13 balls on the table jj was even and all balls but 1 were up to to side pocket or higher it looked prewedge most were on jj side he still was not shooting at his hole with any sort of concern jj was bumping and kicking up till this time jb started all his offense with an agressive shot either a bank or a long shot off the head rail

Jj won the very long game 4 game then jj won a very fast game 5 game where he broke. My opponent was betting on jb so he paid more attention than i

I left after game six i think jb won game six but they had not moved markers it was about 1:15 am when i left this game went down to last ball or two and jb was getting balls in front of his hole so i think jb won but as i said i was playing myself. Score was probly 4-2 jb. Mighta been 3-3. Either way jb was playing well both moving and shooting all nite. When i left i asked what was on the line and was told 6 plus so i guess that means 12 in the middle but the days u never know and i won my little cheap sweat. I bet the jb would win 2 games before jj wins 2 games. Personnallly if the goes very long my money is on the visitor but i think the home table advage will show up if it is going to in the first few games and i was right.

I would be interested in how this came out if anyone knows

Wish i had more details so after 6 games

9-8 don't really show up when someone is on a gear like that. Could have been 9-8 the other way and prolly same results.

Not saying that happens all the time, or ever again, just saying that as good as he was playing it didn't matter.
