Other competition came & my concentration succumbed to the huge speaker over the table. I missed a long shot on the 8 & went home & successfully replicated it numerous times in the sanctity of my basement.
I don't know if seeking to overcome the noise challenge will contribute to my development or if it is counterproductive.
Now I know what the medics felt like doing emergency procedures under fire.
I know how you feel. I like quiet when playing too, but to be honest, I've become more patient with background noise and distraction in my old age.
Still as a competitor, it should be a common courtesy to give your opponent space, quiet, etc. In the old days, if an opponent knew they were distracting and getting to me, they'd just keep it up. Now I just ignore them if they act like a fool.
As far as the loud speaker over the table; yeah, that sucks, but there's not much you can do about it, other than ask someone to turn the music down (which rarely ever happens).
I might get some flack from some bowlers here, but I just wish that tournament venues would realize that amateur pool leagues and amateur bowling leagues are two different beasts. As far as background noise, what works for one, dosen't seem to work for another!
