Advantage of internet

How big of an advantage is the internet ? I for one know that most people I play pool with do not seek information and knowledge from the internet. Just being on AZ and watching champions play on stream helps my game . Reading about issues people have with their games and the solutions our members offer has to be an advantage . As you know there,s information on the forums to address about any situation or technique that is known to man . Needless to say you also have instructors that are ready to answer questions . I believe the people who don't have access to the forums and streams are missing out . AZ is one of the best secrets in the game . IMHO

The internet is the biggest black book ever.

It has been the road warrior's worst enemy. Anyone can post a pic of a player and ID them in a heartbeat.

I guess it's a blessing or a curse depending on whether you're the sucker or not.

Yes that is one advantage, good point

I've been playing for 50 years and have not learned much about the game from this forum. But I have learned a lot about pool cues here and elsewhere on the net.And I still like my Lucasi cue
I also enjoy the stories about the old time great players who I have seen but didn't know a lot about until this forum and the net in general.

I think the internet is a huge advantage for pool players. I've gone from watching the pro's on ESPN once in a while, to watching full length pro matches just about every day. I learn a lot from just watching them play.
Knowledge is power. :)

Hm, lets see what we have just from AZ..

Local and long-distance match-ups that otherwise would never have
happened (OMGWTF to name one).

Unknown cues IDed.

Never having to use the same cue for more than a week thanks to trades/purchases.

Tons of great pool streams, which I love as the commentary is often so much more interesting than ESPN. Heck most of the time people don't even talk about the game but rather road stories about players who are not even in the tournament.

Great official matches from sites like BCClub (Tons of US Open and others on YouTube).

Internet, a mixed blessing for my game

The internet has been entertaining, but it seems in some ways been a distraction for my game. Looking back, I don't need to read people argue over a aiming technique, read about who owes who money, look at cues I can't afford, etc. There can be a lot of distractions or detractors from my pool game.

But reading about the different player perspectives, or watching youtube videos etc can get me psyched. I think I have learned a bit as well now that I filter the info better. I think I used to spend too much time on the net previously.

For someone just learning (like myself) the internet has been a HUUUUGE advantage in finding information, guidance, help and suggestions. The online videos/streams are amazing resources and offer so many more perspectives than the rare espn match.

Granted, none of it will ever replace the value of getting both experience and/or some private lessons - but in their stead, it's an excellent way to make due. I've learned so much from these forums and other online resources (mostly blogs and e-zines)... if only I could execute all that my brain sees.

Those players who learned in the old school way will probably not find much value in the advantage of the internet - other than perhaps reconnecting with old friends.
