Advantage to Performance Shafts?

It won't add spin of any kind - that's a myth.

Then how come I get FAR more draw with my predators shafts than I do with my other shafts?
Either you just think you do or for some psychological reason you're able to hit lower with your Predator shafts.

Have you ever compared chalk marks on a marked cue ball? That's the only way to be sure you're hitting at the same height with both shafts.

FYI, possible explanations can be found here:

Good idea. I agree.

The chark-mark method is very useful to help dispel some pool myths. It was very effective when I was trying to convince Tom Ross (my partner on VEPS) that the "type of stroke" had no direct affect on shot outcome. For people interested, the details are described here:

Have recently have a change of heart regarding LD shafts.
I have 314s matched to my playing cues (all of them).

I am beginning to lean more and more towards traditional maple due to the fact that they just feel better striking the CB.

Although there's a massive difference between pre-cat 314 and current 314. I have one that was made 10yrs ago (matched to SW) and one that was made 2 years ago (matched to PFD). The older one feels a lot more solid and firm. Not sure if the butt has anything to do with it. I have another 314 matched to my SW coming in December. I can test it then.

If you have a positive belief that a LD shaft actually does deflect the cueball less and you like that it does, and you want to continue using one for that reason but want a firmer hit, then you should at least try the OB Classsic shaft. I have one and it hits stiffer than any Predator (314/314-2/or Z) shaft I have ever owned. Maybe you could find a friend or acquaintance that would let you "test drive" theirs.

i know someone who uses a 314-2 and he says the same - that he can draw more with this shaft compared to those 1-piece traditional shafts. i always tell him that he just becomes more confident with these branded and expensive LD shafts.
his draws are really solid with the shaft though. :)

Hey guys, I will be needing a new shaft in the future for my viking and was considering a predator 314-2. Was wondering if people have really experienced more consistency and added spin on draw and english or just a superior performance in any other way. Thanks for your time, Sorry if this is a dead topic on here I'm new..

I have been using a tiger x pro for the past year. Unfortunately, I have to say that I notice very little improvement over my standard shaft. I love the onyx tip and I much prefer to shoot with the smaller tip (11.75) that is on the x pro. However, I definitely do not notice any increased spin, and most research backs that up. These shafts are really for decreased squirt, although I have been disappointed in the change during actual play.

I agree with this. In my game I am much more comfortable hitting lower witha small tip and find it easier to aim lower than do wit a 13mm tip.

pj and I disagree with one another 100% of the time in NPR, and I mean 100% of the time,,, but this is a true statement, and I can't agree enough. I would mention you should take a look at OB shafts or Tiger shafts as well.....

What do you two disagree about regarding National Public Radio?

There is no cue shaft or butt that will will make you more consistent; it is the understanding of the deeper knowledge of pool, and how much practice you put. But to answer your question:
For shots where CB is say 5 diamonds from OB and more deflection becomes considerable, for rolling english shots (bottom or top) your aim with LD is usually within the pocket jaws maybe slightly more depending on angle, with HD shafts your aim is a bit wide of the pocket maybe a 1/2 a ball in addition to the edge of pocket
With stun english, is different, HD cue at time might cancel spin induced throw with deflection and you aim within the pocket, whereas LD might have to aim 1/2 a ball outside of pocket edge
so the aim adjustment will always be there no matter what cue you have, add to that swerve (elevation), bridge location, cloth, balls clean or dirty, humidity, and most importantly your state of mind Focus power Max focus power when you just wake up, and worst at end of day or after a heavy meal

Christ. No, I 'think' that because that's what happens, period. And I don't need a psychologist to witness it for me, either.
Then you need to confirm where you're really hitting the CB. I suggested a simple way, but I think we both know you won't go there - and risk having to admit to yourself you're wrong.

does the ob classic shaft deflect the same as a predator 314-2?

I have only used the one I have, and it is the ONLY OB shaft I have, but yes, the deflection properties appear to be the same as the Predators I own/have owned.

With the positive experience I have had with my OB Classic, I will probably only buy OB shafts from now on if/when I need a shaft replaced.

And no..........I am not a representative for the company :grin-square:!!!
