Advice on improving my game solo

Hey There,

I work in a remote part of Alaska (15 miles of road total) and we have a full size Brunswick table. I seriously doubt that there are going to be more than a few decent players come through from May-Sept.

That being said, I am looking for ways of improving my game. FYI, I have played for three years and that is exclusively 1Pocket. I probably can gain more from practice that will result in me running more balls than anything else. Playing the ghost is the best option so far.

I would appreciate any tips you have on practice, books, whatever that can be done when you are "playing with yourself".

Thanks, and let's play some 1P.

I think the proposal to play 14.1 is a good one. You can keep track of your inning averages.

Also, start doing progressive practice drills, especially for any weaknesses you have. There is a free "Basics Clinic" handout on the www.sfbilliards.com web site which explains progressive practice along with five levels of practice shots. In the "misc files" section is more detailed technical info than you can probably absorb in a few months. More about progressive practice, including progressive 8-ball and progressive 9-ball are among my columns at www.onthebreaknews.com including how to make your own drills from your repeating problems.

good point about playing 14.1! I've seen the stroke of guys who only played one pocket, and I never knew you could make balls with both feet off the ground!:)

oh I'm just kidding.....

When you are in New Orleans make a list of shots you have difficulty with and when you are in Alaska practice those shots.
