I am placing my order for my Southwest this weekend. My name has finally come up.
I am reaching out to ask experiences on shaft taper... I have played with the standard taper in the past, but I am thinking of the standard pro-taper and or the pro-taper and wanted to ask for others experiences. I am excited...

thanks
Ryan

My name came up last year for a Satin (still have a good few years to go for my regular order). There was no option on the satin so I assume it comes with just their standard taper. I have to say, I really like it and find it super comfortable and natural feeling.

I was surprised, I thought it would feel thicker and too stout for me before getting my hands on it. Kinda like my Josey....which I do find too thick taper wise for my tastes. But the SW is one of the best feeling shaft tapers I've ever experienced. I will be sticking with it whenever my name comes up for a standard cue order.

Well I too have been on list 18 years plus. Was told wait was 7 year, or so.

Do not know cost today but I am guess 6k plus.

IMHO if I get the word it’s my turn, wonder build time.

Must I pay in full with order? Many questions?

Also...18 years and 2 months....good to know where the list is at.

I'm at 10 years almost exactly now. So looking at probably 8-10 more I'm guessing....assuming they're still building cues then, haha. Glad I was able to get my Satin when I did at least.

All of you are out yo damn mind lol but I hope it was worth the wait

Keep in mind all it takes is an email to Laurie. You're not out any money to get on the list. It's not like we're sitting out here counting down the days or anything or have money tied up in waiting. Until my Satin came along I probably hadn't given the fact that I was on the SW list a thought for years.

tend to agree. i've had everything from hi-end to cheapo chinese sneakies. i play the same with all of them. i get the 'pride of ownership deal' but as far as playing pool there isn't a lot, if any, difference. what i don't get is waiting that long for a cue. if i really wanted a SW i'd call Greg A. and just buy one.
Let me answer you like you answer others. Who cares what you think. The question was about shaft selection.

Buy one shaft of each taper. Even then you may be dissatisfied. I have three shafts from Rich Chudy for the same cue all the same taper. One plays incredibly well and the other two are more similar to each other but nothing like the third one. I have no idea why it is like that.

You might ask them what the most common taper is that gets ordered. If they are in so much demand that you have to wait a quarter of a century and pay those prices, they should know what makes a great hitting cue more than anyone else does. Varying from their formula may not be the best idea.

It's not the Arrow it's the Archer anything over 5 hundred is a waste of money but that's only my opinion.
So you think archers use shitty arrows? Lol it’s not the arrow it’s the Indian is the dumbest saying ever. Don’t get me wrong a plain southwest will play as good as a loaded one but if you can afford what you want buy it. None of us need expensive cars when a cheap one will get us a to b but here most of us are.. buying shit we don’t need 😂

I'd much rather have thick than thin all day long.
You can't add wood, but yah can always take a little off.
That's what she said.

This is the way I'd go with no hesitation. Besides that, of all the cues I've played with over the years, I haven't found one that had a taper that I just couldn't get used to. And even though I very rarely sell anything, I always think about potential resale value of anything I buy that will carry decent value or possibly gain value (vehicles, guns, cues, etc.) So I don't think anyone could go wrong by getting their standard taper.

Why not get one of each? Ordering extra shafts matching shafts seems to be a no brainer to me.
