Again 8 ball sucks

It's the most popular version of cue sports, and there are no rules. It's simply a "bar" game...

Agree the game sucks...

Disagree that there are no rule...

I hate pretty much all versions of 8ball, with bar rules being the version I despise the most.

8-ball can be a frustrating game and the rules are all over the place, with each bar featuring their own interpretation.

But it's a challenging game. In fact, I think 8-ball challenges position play more than any other game. In 9-ball you can play area position and worry only about lines. In 8-ball, you often have to play to very tight position, often with the game on the line--make position and win; miss position and lose.

Strategically, 8-ball has unique demands. As in one pocket, it's not necessarily the most talented player that wins, it's the best thinker.

Hell, I'm bored.

Like I wrote before, its the people that make the game chickenshit. And you expect pool played in bars to be real pool. Well, sorry to bust your bubble, it isn't.

The bar table kings in 8 ball I know will not go any where a 9ft table. Add tighter pockets, they ain't got a chance.

All the 8 ball tourneys I play in use BCA 8 ball rules.

You need to stop bar pool and find some real pool.

Thing about the rules used in bars is that the go two ways.

Like the ole when you get down to the 8 ball and all of a sudden it is bank the 8 rule pops up. No problem, if you are good enough.

I've hit the the end of the far rail that is on the inside of the pocket and called it a bank shot because there was no rule on what part of the rail I could or could not hit.

Since it is always call shot, meaning you have to call anything you may or may not hit going to the pocket with the OB, if the other players does what I described above and not call hitting the end of the rail, I call it on them saying you didn't call a bank shot.

Then, bank the 8 ball again, they bank the CB to make the 8. Lost of game, it is bank the 8 ball, not bank the CB into the 8ball.

Granted, I do this in a friendly bar only.

Thing about rules, any rules, you have to fully understand them in order to know of ways to get around them.

One must be able to adapt, be flexible, overcome.......

Bar 8 ball is not real 8 ball.

You've been through this already. *****ing about it isn't going to change a thing. With nine foot tables rapidly disappearing from the pool scene and being replaced with bar tables it will only get worse. In the room I played in for almost 25 years it used to be that the only people who played it were kids and beginners.

You're getting annoying.

If you're playing it in a bar, it's a bar game, i don't care if you're playing 1-pocket or keno.

If you don't want to play bar rules 8 ball, then don't. Find a league, find a tournament, or buy your own table and play at home.

Stop *****ing that there are no rules. There are rules. Everybody who plays 8 ball has rules. Get over it.

8 ball

I hate bar rules mainly because of guys like Duckie! I won't play 8 ball with a stranger for cash unless we're playing BCA/Valley rules. Even so I played a carom on the 8 one night and had to listen to them whine for 2o minutes claiming the 8 had to go clean. They waisted 20 minutes of their lives looking for it in the rule book!

Moral (at least for me) is to only play guys that know what they're doing.

Tell Efren that 8 ball sucks. I think he is hands down the BEST 8 ball player ever. Have you ever watched him play 8 ball? That guy is just unreal. Most people are happy to put a 5 pack together on a bar box playing 9 ball, Efren puts 7 and 8 packs together playing 8 ball on a 9 foot diamond. Sorry if I offend anybody but I truly believe that the only people who hate 8 ball, are the ones who are not smart enough to play it, or who can't move the cue ball well enough to play it. Short of one pocket, and the very end of every rack in straight pool where position is critical, 8 ball is the most strategic game there is. SVB, Gabe Owen, and several other top pros came up through the VNEA 8 ball league system so don't you dare sit there and say there is no value in 8 ball and more specifically, 8 ball on a bar box.

Kids' game

I remember growing up we had a table at our house. We would play various games and occasionally play 8 ball. My dad who was a highly skilled player would find us playing 8 ball and would jump on us for playing a kids' game. He would tell us to play 9 ball if we wanted to learn to play. He would kiddingly tell us he would beat us if he caught us playing 8 ball again.:D I guess that is why I have always had an aversion to 8 ball.

WOW!!!!!!! I'm speechless, what an ignorant opinion. 8-ball is an extremely intricate and complex game that grows more complex and intricate the higher the skill level. I'm not really sure I can say that about 9 ball.

We always played 8 ball at the house when I was growing up. That or 15-ball rotation. The first time I played 9-ball was in college. My first impression was that it was a hell of a lot easier than call-pocket 15-ball.

Matter of opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own erroneous opinion.

It's just that we're Canadian. His dad probably informed him we all live in igloos and hunt seals. Must be true.

LOL! Seriously, if you poll any group of good players, from A players to shortstops, to regional champions, to high level pros, their least favorite game will be 8 ball. I've been on AZ since August of 2006 and there have been several polls about members' favorite and least favorite games. To the surprise of many casual and not so casual players, the least favorite is always 8 ball. The only time high caliber players play the game is in a tournament setting where there is enough money involved to make it worthwhile.
