Age old question. $$$$$ new Diamond or $$ used GC, need Ontario mechanic/advice

So I really like the Diamond Professional drop pocket 9' but by the time I start at $5350 and add $900 delivery and $450 setup for Ontario and them add taxes etc. I'm in the $7,500-$8,000 range which has me feeling a little ill. I have a 2 year old and newborn and they'll be playing around this table for the next 20 years. I can already envision the first time that one of them drives a ride on toy or throws something at my table and I'm left with a giant scratch in my otherwise beautiful table.

So this has me wondering if I would be better off sourcing a Gold Crown and possibly refinishing it to suit my in the works finished basement.

This isn't so much a WTB thread, although I'd welcome suggestions. I'm mostly looking to for a local support network. I'm West of Toronto in Ontario and if I was to consider a used GC I want to great local mechanic for both setup, repair and to consult on the condition of any table I'd be considering. I know there are some legends in here that can made a diamond our of a lump of coal but I don't want to wait years for support I want to make sure that there is already a great local mechanic.
Any recommendations?

Thanks

How far west?

First Choice Billiards (Milton)
905 636 1120

I wouldn't suggest anyone else.

I'm actually in Georgetown so Milton's only 15 min away.

Does First Choice Billiards do a lot of work on Gold Crowns?

Thanks for the help

You can't go wrong with a well setup GC, I have played on some that were a pleasure to shoot on (a place near Boston that closed, Brighton Billiards, had 8 of the finest GC tables I ever shot on, they matched anything I have played on, an I still miss those tables). As long as they have the right rails and properly cut pockets will be just fine.

Donnie sells new and used tables, sets them up, tears them down. Full service by them. Great cue work also.

Tell him Dan Lewis suggested him and I guarantee he will take care of you the best he can.

I got nothing against a Diamond Pro-am, But...

If you want to go back in time 40 years or so, play on a restored Centennial.

Both Brunswick & Diamond make GREAT tables; however they (IMO) do play a little bit differently.

:grin::grin:

"Z," I know you'll see this: I'm still gonna get up there,.......(hopefully soon!)

I might know someone in Sarnia who wants to sell a Diamond 9' Professional. Not sure what he wanted exactly but $3k sounds familiar. I also know another guy in Sarnia who might be getting ready to sell his GC4 because he never plays on it. If it intrigues you PM your number to me and I will see if they still have them and forward your number to them or give you theirs if that is what they want.

Used

There are many deals out there today on used tables, bide your time and buy a used Diamond you will NEVER regret it.I have owned 4 tables and nothing plays like a Diamond.
