Aging players and skill level

I've been playing about 35 years on and off. I grew up with a GCI at home, and I'm 41 playing my best right now. The old guys at the pool room used to say you hit your peak between 35 and 50, then by 60 you slip a little. I guess it's different for everyone.

I couldn't imagine trying to be a Pro. As a business model it sux! having to be at your best and finish relatively high just to break even is not a good business model. Take out the love for the game, and NOBODY would go into Pro Pool!!! IMO.

I'm just glad that I still love the game, and still yell at the guy driving too slow in front of me on the way to the pool room!!!.....come on MAN! I'm trying to go play pool!!!!

To answer your excellent question, I believe it is a lack of motivation (burn out) and an equally poor work ethic that causes older players to lose their edge.

I heard that mailman at his age of 72 is playing a ball better than any time in his entire life.
by the way one should not forget about the negative impact of back pain,shoulder pain,gut problems.The havoc caused by these problems in some scenarios is worse than the one caused by the declining eye sight.

Eye sight, booze, smoke. and age. Eating bar food and staying up for long marathons. All of these factors take a toll on the body.

Keith might be the exception to the rule. I don't see his name entered often, but when I do, he advances well into the event. I got to see him play for the first and only time at Turning Stone. I really enjoyed watching him play, he was so animated. He looked like the only player there enjoying himself. Great to watch very entertaining and his fans/crowds there proved it!
