That might be the stupidest thing I've ever read on AZ! Why would someone pay for lessons if they could already play the way the teacher teaches?

At least we know who Jack Nicklaus was taught by, Jack Grout. What is your supposed pro player turned instructor's name?

His name is Robin Dryer. Quite well known in the NW. Hasn't played competitively for over 30 years. He can still demonstrate what he teaches but it might take him twice on the tougher demonstrations as he's not in stroke, no longer works on his game and has taught pool full time for over 20 years. He scored 2nd in the Nation on the old PAT3 test which I know nothing about except that that testing society is not around anymore. Maybe some of the ol' timers will know.

Looks like you are a very good player with good young eyes. On the first set up shot I'd play a safety. ha But... something is wrong with the setup. When I place the OB at the 1/2 diamond off the end rail and 1 & 1/2 diamond away from the side rail, the hit is so thin that when I pot the ball my CB hits the other end rail one diamond toward the middle. Your CB hit the side rail before the pocket. Either you have very wide pockets OR you have the ball set up differently. ??

Let's see you running rack after rack using CTE

This is starting to get tough with all the colors. Your original post was that you "DON'T" play that way with the 5 sections of the pocket. Not that you "COULD or COULDN'T" "DON'T to me means it's YOUR CHOICE NOT TO.

We're making progress. Thank you for his name.

Glad you brought that up because I posted something to you yesterday and got erroneously and rudely criticized for it. I posted this:

"Compared to an "old dog" like you, I'm a pup. Glad to see you looking forward to his book. Hope your fading memory doesn't forget by then". :D

Did that offend you in any way and did you think it was snide? If so, apologies. I thought the big grin at the end would show my meaning and a long time pool player would know how to take a jab into his side as well as give it back.

No, no, no, no, no! This was exactly the dance I said you were going to do. Your turn or your instructor to make the same video with the potting test setup. I've proven what I can do with CTE. Now YOU using anything your heart desires!!

Would not be a fair test me on my table and you on yours. I can tell instantly that yours has very wide forgiving pockets by the direction the CB went after potting the first shot. That shot is so much thinner on my table that the CB comes back within one diamond where I shot it from. Besides, I'm not in competition with you or anybody else.
No, I did not take offense with your "ol' dog" post nor did I report it or anything else.
My posts are not proclaiming how great I play or even how great my teacher plays. I'm trying to discuss aiming systems and how people move the CB around the table for position. All shots are exactly like "ball in jaws" except the angles get smaller with distance and it's a good way to see what tangent players do.

Wide pockets? Ha! I bought that table right after the SBE was over and all the pro players played their matches on it. It was before they started using Diamonds.
4 1/2" pockets.

I don't know what to tell you about how you're setting up the shots but I used the exact same post Colin made for the test in the link I sent you. Keep trying because it is confusing.

Wrong. I already answered it.

You don't need to be in competition with me. I'm giving you proof of how effectively CTE works for another "Joe Blow" non pro player like yourself. You asked for it and you got it. And I am just a "Joe Blow".

I didn't think it did and thanks. I just wanted to clear up being unjustly accused.

shane doesnt use cte and he could pass the test
so what does that prove ??
the answer tom is there are different ways to pocket balls
you and shane can pocket balls using different systems
if the op cant do it doesnt mean his aiming system is faulty just that he level of play is faulty (ie stroke/ alignment issues etc)
btw nice shooting....:D
my 3 cents
question for you
why does it seem you are always challenging people ?

That Shane is a GREAT player! He does use a system and it's not called "feel or intuition".

Uhhh, OK

We don't know what it is because nobody has ever seen him shoot. He hasn't provided a video for analysis.

Thank you.

Last I saw I was the one challenged to make a video running balls with CTE and I provided it.

I thought you ARE interested in CTE and can't wait for Stan's book. Why are you
raggin' on me?

Okay, at the risk becoming the laughing stock of AZ, I posted potting the first set up shot twice in a row just to see the difference in CB reaction. The first one hit the point and barely went in. The second one was hit correctly and watch the CB line to the end rail. That is a very thin long distance shot! What aiming system did I use? Just trying to hit the OB as thin as I could.

i am not raggin on you
it just that threads that are going along fine and then turn defensive and off track ruin the thread from those who were enjoying it
it happened/happens almost all the time in the cte threads totally derailing them
its a shame
the fact that stan has been subject to it all these years is a crime
i never said anything in the cte threads because i was a bystander
although if the few consistent instigators got banned i would think they deserve it
i dont use cte but also do believe it has helped many people
in the poololgy threads i bought the book so i was alittle more involved in the thread
also from speaking to brian and denwhit they are good people and have good honest intentions
and yes i cant wait to get stans book and see the new videos
i am open minded to anything i can learn to help my game.....

Denwit noticed the same thing I did, that a couple of those shots would have hung up on my table. Must be the angle of of the pocket facings. 4.5 from tip to tip is a good, moderately tight pocket if the throat tightens up quickly from there on back. If not, they can be more forgiving. Maybe that's why we thought they were loose. Anyway, good shootin'. Nice looking table table too, and good taste in music.

The video won't open. The screen says private video. No access.

Try a bunch of other shots in the test. As you see in the video I made, I had to go to the chart set up by the camera to figure out the ball layouts on each one. It was as new to me as it is to you.

Oops, try it now.

OK, that worked. Your stroke looks pretty damn good. Now make a chart as I did to illustrate the CB/OB setup for each shot in Colin's scenario and do the entire test one ball/one shot after another consecutively. You can base it from his chart as well as how I set up each shot in the video.

It's not easy even with practice. In my case, I didn't practice. Just went and did it on the first try.

Was it luck? Hell no. Those shots are TOUGH, especially one after the other. You'll end up saying and feeling the same thing. Whatever you use for an aiming system is fine. But I think it's clearly obvious the way I approach the shot from behind to get my visuals is the way Stan does it in his videos on youtube. It should be, he taught me and so did Hal. It is CTE and dead nuts on.

Let us know what you're using.

Thanks, I know your shots were not luck and you are a very good player. You'd have to give me a giant spot. And, I'll leave it like this; I'm open to "Poolology" have read the book and learned the system. I'm very open to CTE and will buy the book and maybe try to learn the system. But, I'm the kind of guy that loves to take lessons especially if I enjoy working with the teacher. I think Robin is MENSA territory as he develops his own stat scoring systems for aiming, safeties, playing, etc, designs his own drills for handouts, has his own rail kicking systems and I just enjoy our time together. He's forgotten more about the game than I'll ever know but that doesn't stop me from striving.
I was a 5hcp golfer when I had to quit 3 years ago after two neck surgeries but was taking bi-weekly lessons til the end. He's a "vertical" player and teacher and that's what I'm trying to learn.

But you did claim to be an A player a few days ago.

So.... if we can't prove how great we shoot we shouldn't post on AZ? I'm a Low A I guess, was an 8 in APA and BCA two years ago. All I know is that they won't let me play in the B level tournaments around here. Maybe AZ will make it a rule that if your not world ranked you can't post on AZ.

Nah, I just think that in the pool world you may not have a good grasp on what an A player really is. No harm no foul intended, and none taken I hope.

I think you are correct about that and wish I had never stated that I'm an "A" player. Where does one put themselves when they are no longer "B" players?

Well I could throw around a few names like maybe Billy Thorpe, Alex Ollinger, Brian White, Larry Neville, and so on that I have frequently heard called A players, although I've seen them all player several times and they are quite competitive in the pro tournaments, which is a far cry from the local bar having a shootout with 8 people on a 7 footer playing 8 ball, for example. You can call yourself whatever you wish, but given this venue I doubt that term is appropriate.
