How HUGE is the pocket in baseball?

In pool, you have to hit a 2 1/4 inch ball into a 4 1/2 inch pocket from as far away as 9 feet. I will admit the ball isn't a moving target though.

In baseball, your pocket is staying within bounds and as far and high as you can hit it. How many inches is that pocket?

Aloha.

With 9 fielders paid millions of dollars to prevent it from hitting the "pocket". Not to mention the guy throwing the ball 95mph or higher, with movement.

Just hitting the ball is a challenge in baseball, because even if you manage to somehow hit it, the 9 guys are still trying to prevent the hit by catching it first. Not to mention having enough strength to hit it past someone in baseball.

A better example, having to throw a baseball from 60 feet away, as hard as you can, but split the 17 inch "pocket" of the plate, and it only counts if the guy does not hit it. Not so easy, cause if it was, we'd all have $100M contracts.

I guess most of these guys aren't baseball fans. Against a pitcher with just four good pitches in his arsenal, most of us would have a better chance of hitting a pitch if we kept our eyes closed. Hell, all the guy would need is a good slider and 99% of us would swing away at air every time, wondering where the heck the ball went.

The balls are NOT moving, why would that make it more difficult. Would you rather hit a stationary golf ball, sitting on a tee, or have me throw one at you as hard as I could ? The choice is your, which would you chose? ...?

Hitting one ball into another ball to make the latter into a pocket is indeed the unique difficulty one faces when playing pool. Whether it is more difficult than golf or baseball is a totally different question. ;)

pool is hands down more difficult mentally

Baseball and golf are more challenging physically, however, pool is hands down more difficult mentally and also require more varieties of "hand/eye" coordination situations.

CJ, when you say, "difficult mentally", you're surely not referring to the guys I play One Pocket with, are you? :)

Oh yeah, its pretty tough standing in the outfield waiting for something to happen.

Golf, heavens that club is just to hard to swing. And the walking, oh may god....very strenuous.
