Well, here's the way a lot of gamblers would look at this. He has whatever he had in his pocket prior to starting + $200. So let's just call it $400. If you are gambling on empty, catch a stroke, and then go on to murder the guy at the table, you have the opportunity to win $400 from him. (Remember, your $200 is already his, he won it fair and square.)
So, let's see what you are putting up against his $400. Hmm...Exactly $0.
Does that sound like a good deal to you? For all he knows, 4 sets might be the magic number, and you are about to get so pissed you start running 3 packs until he is blue in the face.
So, when he finds out you are playing on air, to his mind, you are betting absolutely nothing, against his $400. In effect, you are attempting to steal from him.
He just might pop you right in the mouth for doing that. All I know is, you better not try to pull a stunt like this away from home, or if you are an unpopular guy in your home pool room. People's cars get busted up for much less.
