Akron/Canton OHIO?????

Im headed to Akron, OH for the last two weeks of Dec. Anyone know any tournements going on? When I used to live there I was just getting into pool and I played at Action Billiards and I moved away right as they closed down. So I really dont know many other rooms in the area.
 
Crown Billiards on Manchester Rd has 9 ball tourneys on Monday nights. Most of the starchers crowd plays here. Actions is now called Beemers, i've never been there. Fiddlestix is in Canton a block or two from Belden village Mall. Very nice room with both 7 & 9 foot diamonds and some very good players. I don't know their tourney schedule. But the scenery is very nice and the equipment is top notch.

Is Starchers still in business ?
 
No. Mrs Strarcher sold it, it was a poolroom (in name only)for a while after that and now it's an equipment rental place. I'm thinking it's been 4 or 5 years since it was a pool room.
 
Is Crown in the Coventry Plaza? If So who owns it? I grew up there and just wondering about the pool sceen. I played at Golden Billiards in Akron Square and then they moved and became Starchers when i was a still there. Wow thats been a long time ago.

Yep, Coventry Plaza. "Chick" Thomas owns it. He was a player from starchers. Like a lot of places anymore, there's more barbox action than there is on 9 footers in pool rooms.

Lots of the ones I used to know are closed as DawgAndy points out in this thread. But, he mentions a lot of others.

Also, I do not know if it is still going on, but, there is a bowling alley called Carousel Bowing off Ridge Rd. in Cleveland. Take I480 towards the airport, then turn North on Ridge.

On Sundays, they have a $5.00 open tournament on 4 1/2 x 9 tables. Prize money isn't much, but, the calcutta (sp) is like $400.00 for 1st.

Yea I think a lot the neighborhood pool rooms are still open in Cleveland. I don't venture up that way anymore. Not enough time. I'm about 20 minutes from Crown.
 
Yes, I am home for the holidays. When I first started playing about 2 1/2 years ago, I played at Starchers(action billiards) and they closed down almost 2 years ago.

I have played at crown 2 or 3 times... Ill have to hit that up while im in town. Its not far from my parents in Wadsworth so Im sure Ill be there most of the two weeks Im home. If anyone in the area wants to get together and shoot a little, let me know.
 
I moved to Wadsworth this past May. My wife and I had been away from the area for 12 years or so.
 
Nice. Not much pool going on in Wadsworth. Ill be in town the 20th-30th... hit me up if you want to shoot some.
