Does anybody know where I can go to find out who won the Akron Open each year, who got runner up, etc.

Somebody was talking about watching a video from 1988, where can I get videos from specific years?

some of the videos are on youtube,i punch in akron open 1988 and it came up,i hope this helps.

i was watching the 88 keith and earl match this morning. that looks like starchers pool hall. is it? i was throught there about 97' or so. we showed up at 4 in the morning and there was this guy sitting there right inside the door by the A table and he wanted one pocket action for 500 a game. i was wet behind the ears still and was about blown away. since then ive learned that starchers was notorious for big action and strong players. is it still open?

no it's been closed for maybe 10 years. fiddlestix is the place to go in akron now, and it's good for action as well.

Sigel won it the year of or just after The Color of Money came out. Then Varner over Gary Spaeth. Steve McAninch won one, as did Tony Ellin over Parica. I think Mark Jarvis may have won also.

I have a couple matches on disc that were taped by Pat when Accu-Stats was a 1 man show. Single camera, no commentary. I have a magnificent battle between Mark Maryo and Nick Varner. They have a great safety duel...burying each other then each kicking safe over and over. I also have Gary Spaeth playing local Dennis Jackson.

Send me your address and I'll send you one or both of those matches. I miss Joe Kerr, Dottie Starcher and seeing all those monsters in the field. I bought cues every year from Benny Renzi and John Garvin, Jay Reed and anybody who needed cash. Those were great days.

Earl won at least 3 times. Mark Jarvis won the Shamrock shootout at Starcher's don't remember him winning the Open.

I really can't help ya much,But I have to say that I think every time
I was there some guy named Earl won It. He owned that tourny when I was going up there. I have an old vhs tape,( might have been one of accustats very first) where he and I was playing a match. I put a 5 pack on him but....It wasn't enough. He won 11 to 9 and I really could have not
played much better. That was a good tourny though. John B.

I was told Donnie Blevins won it twice, I was hoping to find something on video from the tourneys he won. I don't know what years he won it.

WOW! That name brings back alot of good memories! I got lucky and got to spend some time in that area.I remember Donnie.A bunch of us hung
around together up there. That was some good, cool times.Hope he's doing ok. I taught Mike Gullasy " however you spell his name" how to jump over a ball while I was hanging around up there. We stayed with a family that
owned a bar/ poolroom and they let us stay in their house too. They had a bar table in their basement .We would play all day in the bar and all night when we got back to the house. I'm gonna guess mid 80's.It was such a good pool area. When some of us would make a score we would give each other a little jelly roll. And everyone around new we did It and no one had any problems with It.IE: backers, side betters. Sorry, hope I didn't get to far of course here,That just brought back alot of memories. John B.

Donnie's playing again, he won the Halloween "Spook Shoot" tourney at Blackie's in Sharon. He still shoots good, but prob not anything like he used to - heard he was a killer back in the day.
